A few years back, I made all my Thanksgiving Appetizers in a single theme – Turkeys. It’s amazing just how many dishes besides a roasted turkey can be transformed into a turkey. Everything from dips to vegetable platters can become “turkeys” with a little imagination.
Did you know that Americans eat more shrimp than any other seafood? Guess Bubba was on the right track with his shrimp boating plans. The most popular shrimp dishes in North America are Seafood Gumbo, Shrimp Cocktail, Shrimp De Jonghe (a specialty of Chicago’s De Jonghe’s Hotel and Restaurant) and of course our Italian favorite, Shrimp Scampi. Scampi is so popular, it actually has its own National Day of celebration.
Do you have those Deviled Egg Trays that have a big, round circle in the middle? I’ve often wondered why it’s there. You aren’t going to place a bowl of dip in the middle of a platter of deviled eggs, are you? Do you fill it with greenery to make the dish pretty or just leave it alone? Whenever possible, I like to put something in the center, depending upon the style of egg. These south-of-the-border eggs went very well with another great appetizer, Stuffed Mini Peppers. You can put just about anything you like, or leave the center plain. Now if you are using a more modern deviled egg platter, chances are the center isn’t an issue.
While Hubby watched the two remaining play-off games, I began the rather difficult task of putting together this year’s actual Super Bowl Game Day menu. Didn’t happen, but that’s okay, too).Continue reading “My Big Game Day Menu”
What is it about Deviled Eggs that makes them so popular? I have yet to attend a gathering (office potluck, family gatherings, any social gathering with food) that the Deviled Egg in some form doesn’t make an appearance. Perhaps it’s the versatility of the Deviled Egg – the personal touches that makes each platter as individual as the creator. With an eye to detail, even store-bought deviled eggs can be transformed from ordinary to extraordinary. Just as there are countless ways to make the deviled egg, there are a multitude of platters whose sole purpose is to serve those eggs in style.
