Saturdays were Made for Nothing

That is not to say that Saturdays are pointless, but rather that every once in a while, a Saturday should be void of chores or errands or commitments of any kind. Simply enjoy the day.

Most Saturday mornings are anything but relaxing. We have our grocery shopping to do – put the final touches on the shopping list, take inventory of supplies and shop accordingly. If there are projects that need attention around the house, Saturday’s are usually the day for that, too.

Once in a rare moon is Saturday spent quietly. It is only when we make it a point to shut out the rest of the world that is a Saturday made for nothing. Did you know that, depending upon who you listen to, today is National Nothing Day? It’s also the first Saturday of the month – and that’s Play Outside Day. Recently we did just that – did almost nothing (driving was involved) and played outside.

Oh to those glorious days without a care in the world. Naturally, carefree days should begin with a warm, sweet slice of cake and a leasurily cup of coffee.

Bisquick Streusel Coffee Cake
Cinnamon Streusel
2/3 cup Bisquick
2/3 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
4 tablespoons firm Butter

Heat oven to 375-degrees. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or deep-dish pie pan, set aside.

In a small bowl, stir Bisquick, brown sugar and cinnamon together. Cut in the butter until crumbly; set in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Coffee Cake
2 cups Bisquick
2/3 cup Milk
2 tablespoons Sugar
1 Egg, room temperature
Butter for serving

In a medium bowl, mix Bisquick, milk, sugar and egg together until blended. Spread cake batter out in the prepared ban. Sprinkle streusel over the top.

Bake in the heated oven for about 18 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter and enjoy.

O God, let all the nations praise You!

  1. This morning I was telling my husband that I don’t even know what “slothful” Saturday morning looks like. I have already exercised, eaten breakfast, and now am preparing to wash bedding and towels. I just don’t get days off of my domestic engineering job:) It is very rewarding though and God honoring:)
