I am relived to say that my time to serve on a jury is up. All it took was a phone call late in the evening the night before I was to report. The automated service said “We have all the jurors needed at this time. We thank you for your service and you are dismissed”. Guess it pays to procrastinate.
To serve on a Jury in my county, first you receive a summons. It instructs you to call after 5 pm the night before you are scheduled to serve and you will receive further instructions. While I don’t know for sure, it seems that there are only so many people needed to fill a panel of perspective jurors. And that filling those slots are probably a first come basis. So the night before, I cooked dinner, cleaned the kitchen, made a dessert, served the desert, cleaned the kitchen for a second time and then got ready for bed. At that point, I called the automated line to “report” for service. Imagine that – all the slots had been filled and my services were not required.
Still, had I been selected, I was prepared to serve.
Phew!
