Good Morning Grand Marnier Day!

Today is National Grand Marnier Day. I was all in favor of whipping up my favorite dessert – a Grand Marnier Soufflé served with a Crème Anglaise or Vanilla Custard Sauce. Yeah, that’s my favorite. It’s not Hubby’s favorite when it comes to Soufflés. He prefers a Chocolate Soufflé with a light Dove Chocolate Sauce.

I love making soufflés – the challenge and all that. However; I’m not willing to wreck my kitchen in order to whip up two different soufflés. Typically I’ll make the Chocolate Soufflé served along two different sauces – a chocolate and Grand Marnier. It’s called compromise – finding that middle ground where everyone is happy. It’s what keeps a marriage on track.

Today is all about Grand Mariner on this Glorious Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Times the Year of Our Lord B (a Catholic reference), it’s also a day of rest – even for us chief cooks and bottle washers. Besides, who doesn’t like their French Toast kissed with the sunshine flavors of Grand Marnier?

Hope you all have an amazing day!

Zesty Grand Marnier French Toast
6 Eggs
1-1/3 cups Milk
6 tablespoons Grand Marnier
1 tablespoon Fine Orange Zest
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
12 slices Texas Toast
Butter
Maple Syrup

Heat electric griddle to about 325 degrees. Brush with butter-flavored margarine.

In a blender, blend eggs and milk until smooth. Add Grand Marnier, zest and spices. Blend until smooth. Pour mixture into a shallow bowl.

Slice Texas toast to create two points. Dip into batter and cook on griddle until golden brown. Flip and cook to golden brown. Just before removing from griddle, place a small pat of butter on each toast slice and allow it to melt.

Cook toast in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the griddle. As toast is finished, simply transfer to a large serving platter and keep in a warm (not hot) oven until ready to serve.

If desired, dust with powdered sugar just before serving. Serve with warm Maple Syrup and delicious crisp bacon.

For awesome, crisp bacon check out Kiddo’s Secret to Crisp Bacon. He’s been frying up the family breakfast bacon this way for years.

Kiddo’s Perfect Crisp Bacon
2 tablespoons Bacon Drippings
8 slices Hickory Smoked Bacon

Heat a large skillet or griddle to medium heat. Melt bacon drippings into skillet. Once the drippings begin to sizzle, add strips of bacon. Once the bacon begins to crisp, turn as needed to cook and crisp evenly. Remove bacon from the pan and place on a few paper towels to drain.

The bacon drippings can be poured into a jar and kept in the refrigerator for future use.

Within Your temple, we ponder Your loving kindness, O God
As Your name, so also Your praise reaches the ends of the earth;
Your right hand is filled with justice.
