Kids in the Kitchen on Movie Night

Oh how I wish I had kids in the kitchen just one more time. My babies are all grown. My great grandbaby lives up in the hills, several hour’s drive. We don’t see her precious little face nearly as often as we’d like to. When we do, it’s at a park or a restaurant since they have a house full of cats and Hubby is severely allergic.

When my own children were little, we spent many a morning in the kitchen. When Kiddo was still a kid, he was my number one little helper. Every now and again we’d make something simple – Movie Night Hot Dogs, just like the hot dogs you can get at the movies. Then we’d pop some popcorn and all gather in the living room for a family night at the movies.

Okay, so Kiddo is now a grown man. Still, it’s nice to relive those precious moments. We’ve added Movie Nachos to the menu since we’re all fans of a little spice. And the movie of choice was recorded earlier in the week to bypass the commercials. It was a simple movie about trusting God in all we do.

Here’s to Kids in the Kitchen and spending time together as a family!

Movie Night Hot Dog Special
3 Costco Dinner Franks
3 long Hot Dog Buns
1/4 Yellow Onion
Ketchup as desired
Mustard as desired
3 pieces Foil for serving

Place hot dogs in a pot. Fill pot with enough water to allow dogs to roll as they boil. Bring the pot to a boil. Lower heat and continue to cook until dogs are cooked through. Remove boiled dogs from the water. Place the hot dogs in a toaster oven on a broiler pan. Broil dogs just until they begin to sweat, turning as needed to dry and lightly blister the skin.

While the dogs cook, roughly dice onion and set aside.

Once the dogs are broiling in the toaster oven, place a steamer basket over the pot of water the dogs were boiled in. Split buns open, steam just until warmed but not damp. Place each warmed bun on a piece of foil.

Remove dogs from the broiler, place on steamed buns. Top with mustard, ketchup and chopped onion as desired. Wrap in foil and keep warm.

Movie Night Nachos
2 cups Nacho Cheese Sauce
1 bag Round Tortilla Chips
1 cup Nacho Jalapeños

In a sauce pan, gently warm the cheese sauce. Spread chips out in paper bowls, top with warm cheese and a scattering of peppers.

Serve sodas in paper cups. And don’t forget the popcorn and candy!

My heart and my flesh
cry out for the living God.
