Kiddo took his plate with a burger and fries along with the shake from the refrigerator and wandered back down to his room. He has quite the setup there – with multiple computer screens and a boom mic for gaming.
Hubby and I looked at each other and shrugged. On game nights, we’ve lucky if we see him again before morning. That was fine. Hubby and I had recently discovered When Calls the Heart and have been binge watching since New Year’s to catch up. Yeah, I know we’re into Season 12. Call us late to the party. We had tried to get into the show sometime around mid-way through the 5th or 6th season. It just didn’t resonated with us. But once we were able to go all the way back to the pilot and go from there, the character development drew us in. Sure, it’s sappy – what can you expect from Hallmark? But it’s nice, too. Hubby is not a fan of Elizabeth, but that’s a subject for another day.
Anyway, after dinner and KP duty we plopped down in front of the TV to watch yet another season while enjoying our shakes as a refreshing dessert. That’s when Kiddo made a rare appearance on a game night to let me know my Fresh Strawberry Shake was the best Strawberry Shake he had ever had. When it comes to shakes, Hubby is a Chocolate fan, I like Vanilla (only because it’s like soft-serve ice cream in a glass) and Kiddo is the Strawberry Expect. It made my night to hear such high praises from my long-time Sous Chef. The next morning he was still talking about that shake. Hubby isn’t generally a fan of strawberry shakes, he did say this one was delicious – the texture and thickness perfect. Moving forward, according to Hubby, I’ll be making the family shakes. In the past, that’s always been his job.
Maybe it’s the simplicity of the recipe, the per glass mixing or the freshness of the berries – all I know is this was good! Darn good.
Fresh Strawberry Milkshakes
3 scoops French Vanilla or Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
1/2 cup Whole Milk
6 fresh Strawberries
1 tablespoon Sugar
Whipped Cream as desired
Strawberry Garnish as desired
Chill Milkshake Glasses in the freezer.
For each shake, place ice scream scoops and milk into a blender.
Clean, hull and chop the strawberries, add to the blender. Sprinkle sugar over the top of the berries. Blend until well-incorporated, pink and pourable.

Pour strawberry shake into a chilled glass, place in the refrigerator to hold. Repeat until all the desired Fresh Strawberry Shakes have been made. Remove from refrigerator, top with whipped cream. Garnish with a fresh strawberry if desired. Serve with a big straw and enjoy.
