Saint Thomas Aquinas and Blueberry Pancakes
In our parish, shortly after the secular New Year, the Church hosts a series of lectures. These generally lead up to a recruitment of parishioners interested in small faith groups to study Church teachings on a particular subject during Lent. Last year the series was on the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This year the focus is on End Times and the teachings of the church.

Today is the Feast Day of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Thomas was born in the castle of Roccasecca in the old country of the Kingdom of Sicily in 1225. Although his parents were well-off, as the youngest son Thomas was expected to enter the monastery and devote himself to God. He did so, but not the way that his family had hoped.

Today is the Feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Years ago, we belonged to a parish that had the tradition of handing out small loaves of dark bread at the end of Mass in honor of Saint Thomas Aquinas. Tucked inside the wrappings were quotes from Saint Thomas Aquinas. I miss that tradition.
