Today within the Church we honor the Feast Day of Simon and Jude, Apostles and martyrs in Christ. While the Bible’s focus is on Christ, as it should be, we are missing some key players in His holy ministry. There are glimpses sprinkled in scripture and early teachings, but no clean picture of who the Chosen were individually.

The Apostles Simon and Jude

Today is the Feast Day of Simon the Zealot and Jude the Apostle. They share a feast day not because they died together, but because in life they are often associated as an evangelizing team. The most widespread tradition is that first Simon evangelized in Egypt, then joined Jude in proclaiming the Good News throughout Persia and the surrounding areas.

A Feast for Two Apostles

While I realize that the true focus of Christian Faith must always be on Jesus Christ, I do wish we knew more about the Apostles. Each was chosen by Jesus for a particular reason. If we knew more about them, perhaps we might understand better why each was selected. What did they have to offer? And we just might be able to see a bit of ourselves in them.
