Today is the Feast Day of Simon the Zealot and Jude the Apostle. They share a feast day not because they died together, but because in life they are often associated as an evangelizing team. The most widespread tradition is that first Simon evangelized in Egypt, then joined Jude in proclaiming the Good News throughout Persia and the surrounding areas.

Old Fashion Chocolate Pinwheel Cookies
Growing up, one of the things I always looked forward to was Dad’s Holiday Baking. The man would begin baking cookies in mid October, and keep them frozen until Thanksgiving. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, we had more cookies than you could imagine. Cookies and fudge and pies and all sorts of holiday delights.

Today is National Peanut Lover’s Day. While I realize peanut butter cookies is a bit of a stretch, I really wanted an excuse to share my childhood recipe for these crisscross delights. I will admit, I’ve used more modern recipes, but none can compare to the one found in his seventy-three year old cookbook.
