What can I say about these awesome griddle burgers? These burgers are messy. These burgers are dripping with juices. These burgers are wrapped in flavor. Better yet, these burgers are just a hot, delicious mess.
The original recipe had 1/4 pound burgers wrapped in bacon that were cooked on a grill. First, our home-made burgers are rarely less than 1/3 pound burgers. Secondly, the more I thought it over; the more concerned I became with the idea of cooking a burger (no matter how lean) wrapped in bacon over a fire – be it coal or gas. Fire flare-ups were going to happen. There was no getting around the flare-ups. I decided cooking the burgers on a griddle, with better control over the heat and no flare-ups was the better way to go.
If you like bacon with your burger, this is a pretty darn good burger. I would also recommend trying a straight barbecue sauce in place of the ketchup mixture. Some grilled onions would also be good.
Yeah, I’d say this is a recipe in progress – a great starting point for some awesome burgers down the line. Have fun!
BLT Burgers with BBQ Ketchup Sauce
The Sauce
1/4 Cup Ketchup
1/4 Cup Mayonnaise
1 Teaspoon Yellow Mustard
1 Tablespoon Barbecue Seasoning
Heat griddle to 350 degrees.
Stir ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard in a bowl until blended. Season with barbecue seasoning. Taste and adjust if more barbecue flavor is desired. Set aside until ready to use.
The Burgers
1 1/3 lb Lean Ground Beef
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Pepper
8 Slices of Bacon
4 Sesame Hamburger buns, Split
4 Lettuce Leaves
4 Tomato Slices
Shape beef into 4 patties, each 3⁄4-inch thick. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Wrap each burger with 2 strips of bacon, crossing each other at right angles.
Place patties on the hot griddle and cook about 6 to 8 minutes, or bacon is crisp and burgers are cooked half way through. Flip and cook another 6 to 8 minutes or until desired doneness is reached.
Place the buns on the grill to toast during last 2 minutes of cooking.
Spread a little ketchup mixture on buns. Place lettuce and tomato on bottom bun, top with burger and top bun.
Serve with lots of napkins and enjoy.
The bacon wrapped burger is perfect!! 😀
