Absolutely The Bomb – The Ultimate Bloody Mary

I came across this recipe for the Ultimate Bloody Mary about four years ago at Honestly Yum (https://honestlyyum.com/). I remember back – way, way back in the days when I was single. Many a Sunday morning, I found myself sitting at a bar sadly sipping a hair of the dog that bit me in the form of a Bloody Mary.

Back then, I worked with cowboys. I don’t mean city boys caught up in that whole “line dancing is cool” craze that followed on the heals of disco dancing. Real cowboys – the riding, swearing, spitting kind. Let me tell you, those boys sure can pack away the booze. If you want to run with the big boys, you had to hold your liquor. Most of the time, I failed but they respected me for trying.

plain bloody maryI can tell you with no uncertainty that not one of those Bloody Marys back in the day were served more as an appetizer than a cocktail. You were lucky if it had a stock of celery! I love this amazing concept of a Bloody Mary! Wish I could say I’ve whipped up a few or that all these beautiful pictures are my own creation. Everything from the recipe to the photos are all Honestly Yum originals. Todd is a native of the Bay Area (one of my favorite places in the word) and owns two beverage catering companies. This man knows his stuff. So what has prevent me from mixing up this awesome drink over the years? Two things. First off, we don’t have a cocktail shaker. I think we had one a very long time ago, but it hasn’t been around for years. I keep meaning to buy another one, just never got around to it. And like so many awesome recipes worth a try, I tucked this recipe away for safe keeping and simply forgot about it.

So here it is in all its mind-blowing glory –

The Bloody Mary:
2 oz vodka
2 oz tomato puree
1/2 oz lemon juice
1 big dash Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons freshly grated horseradish
3 dashes Tabasco
2 pinches celery salt
1 pinch black pepper

Garnishes:
crab leg (cooked)
whole shrimp (cooked)
bacon
celery stick
lemon wedge
pickled green beans (preferably spicy)
caper berries
cherry tomatoes
mini sweet peppers (fresh)
cornichons
black lava salt for the rim

Special Equipment
Cocktail Shaker
Pint Glasses

Gather all the ingredients for both the cocktail and the garnishings.

Fill a small saucer with a little water. Fill a second saucer with some of the black lava salt. Dip the pint glasses into water to moisten. Dip moistened glasses into the salt for the rim much like you would a margarita.

Add all of the cocktail ingredients into your shaker. Fill with ice and shake for 10 seconds. Pour the entire contents of the shaker into a black lava salt-rimmed pint glass.
Add as many of the garnishes as humanly possible. Serve and do it again!
