Can we chat a moment? Rather than share a recipe from the past or cook something special for you today, I’d like to take a moment to share a few of my favorite photographs as we simply talk about life in cyber space and reality.
While I’m no pro with a camera, like most of us, I love to snap away. Every now and again, the camera will capture something that is truly beautiful.
The nice thing about blogging is the whole blogging community that is out there. I have my followers – and those that I follow. It’s an interesting collection of people existing in a world that is strange and new to me. A wonderful, magical place in cyber space. As I share my amateur photographs, let me tell you about some of the wonderful people I have “met” on my journey through the blogging world.
There is a brave man who is fighting back against cancer. He shares his thoughts with those willing to listen. Most of the time he is up beat, even if it is a brave face at the moment. This man believes he has been given his cancer as a way to encourage and inspire others traveling down a similar road. With a smile on his face he puts one foot in front of the other and continues to press onward. His message is clear – just keep living every moment in that moment and embrace it fully. This includes the painful ones. As many of you know, I lost Brother Dear to cancer. This stranger in cyber space has helped me to heal in ways I cannot express. Although we will never meet in the world of reality, he has touched my soul deeply. I am a better person today having crossed paths with this beautiful human being.
In the blogging world, you cannot help but feel that these strangers in the real world are people you could easily call friend. There is a gal out there that has a unique way of sharing her recipes. There’s no history or background story behind her shares. Instead you are greeted with a series of pictures of her recipe in various stages of preparation. All the while, she’s having a conversation with her readers about life – sharing her thoughts on golf or other topics in life that make her a little nuts. It’s like visiting with a friend, sitting in her kitchen while she prepares dinner and chats with you about her thoughts. When you leave, you feel better having spend a little time with a friend.
There is an interesting couple who are now happily retired, traveling around the country in their RV. Her husband in the pilot, she the co-pilot of their adventures. She is a wizard with a camera – unbelievable photos of wild life and sunrises that steal your breath away. Bright, beautiful photos of birds in flight against blue skies that never seem to end. Her narratives that accompany her pictures paint in words what the camera’s eye has captured. Her photos are snapshots of contrast serving as a reminder. It is through photos that we can appreciate the contrast of life. For it is contrast that punctuates life’s true hidden beauty.
Equally important is the need to learn from those different from ourselves. Differences are what makes life interesting. Can you imagine a world in which everyone though alike? Ho hum. Differences are contrasts in color. And contrasts bring beauty that might otherwise have gone unseen.
And then there are all my fellow foodies from around the world, sharing family traditions, customs and holiday observances that are vastly different from those I’ve known. Yet at our core, we are the same. Families gather, laugh together, cry together, and weave a tapestry of memories in the universal language of love. We who blog should be proud of what we do. It takes a certain kind of bravery to share ourselves with others. It is here that we share glimpse into our everyday lives. It is here that we share our hopes, our dreams, our fondest memories. I am amazed that people of different background, beliefs, attitudes and orientation are all on this same journey, the journey of life. Be brave. Open yourself up. Learn from one another. Life is beautiful.
If we can come together and learn from one another within the amenity of cyber space, imagine what we can do in reality. Every person on this planet has the same basic human need to connect with another human being. We have a deep desire to share, to connect and to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Although the paths may differ, we are all on the same journey within the human experience. I stand in awe of the beauty of life. Life asks only one thing – come as you are. Greet one another with a smile. Don’t live in fear of judgment or rejection. Reach out and accept one another for who and what we are. Look within, for it is within that the truth exists.
Life is good. Painful, sad, quiet, loud, happy, still and often messy. No matter what, life is good. Every moment of every day has a gift. No matter the struggles or disappointments, the Good Lord has blessed you with the miracle of life itself. I for one give thanks for this messy, beautiful blessing.
