Today is National Orange Juice Day. Wow, does that leave us wide open for ideas? Big, tall glasses of freshly squeeze orange juice or sparkling Mimosa with Champagne and orange juice. Spice Orange Chicken made with real orange juice.
Yeah, the choices are endlessly good. My all-time favorite orange juice drink is an Orange Julius. Do you remember when the Orange Julius Stands were everywhere? Boy, were they delicious on a hot summer day at the state fair! Now you are lucky to find one stand tucked away in the corner somewhere. That’s okay, we can make our own.
Orange Julius Smoothie
1 1/4 cups fresh Orange Juice
3/4 cup Water
1 large Egg White (see note)
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/4 cup Sugar
2 cups Ice
1 Orange, sliced for garnish
Note: Pasteurized Egg White Substitute is fine for the egg white. Use 3 tablespoons.
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed 45-60 seconds, until mixture is very smooth and frothy. Use slightly less ice for a thinner consistency; use slightly more for a thicker shake-like consistency.
Slice orange into thin rounds, cut slit in the round and garnish glass with orange round if desired.

I remember Orange Julius. This recipe sounds so refreshing. I will be trying this for a post run hydration soon.

Thanks. I’m making this as a treat for my Dad tomorrow instead of Margaritas.
