Unlike July’s table that just seemed to scream right through the photo “Wow – look at me!!!”, the tablescape for August is more subdued. It’s one of those tables you need to take a seat at to appreciate all the little things.
What’s that saying – you’ve come a long way, baby. I’ve always wanted a lighthouse theme for my dining room table. Guess you have to go to a beach to get lighthouse-beach themed decorations. Okay, so you could go online, but I didn’t think about online shopping until the last second last year, so I went with what I had.
Bird room, bird table, what can I say? These little guys we got years ago in Mexico. And the vase is an empty wine bottle I thought looked interesting.
This year, I got the August Table I’ve pictured in my mind. As many of you know, we spent time in July combing the beaches of Oregon. It was fun finding things for the tablescape. Exploring tide pools was great for inspiration.
I will admit, I was nervous, I knew what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure it would come together. It really looked like a mess with bags of sand, shells and bits of driftwood from our beach adventure. I found stickers, flower vases and fabric from a craft store. It’s one thing to imagine a table, but actually staging it was another story. The final touches came I pulled down plates from the cabinet that haven’t seen the light of day since I first brought them home. Perfect.
Truth be told, I had completely forgotten about the appetizer plates. I was reorganizing pictures when I saw the photos I had taken nearly two years ago of these cute plates. Took their pictures, then off to the top cupboard they went, never to be seen again – until now.
Oh, and one last thing – most of the time, when I do the dining room table, I also do the breakfast nook table and coffee table. I like things to flow together in the living areas of the house.
Hope you all have a wonderful August!
