Oh To Slumber Under the Stars!

Today isn’t just any old National Day, it’s a Global Day. Wow, now that’s special. It’s Global Sleep Under The Stars Night. You don’t need to travel to a remote spot or hike out into the woods. Set up a camp in your own backyard, or the terrace of your apartment. Anywhere that you can look up at the night sky is fine. Gazing up into a star-filled sky brings a calming peace and an overwhelming sense of awe bundled together.

Now the founders of Global Sleep Under the Stars Night tell you to pitch a tent – on the patio, or rooftop or anywhere outdoors. Personally, I find sleeping inside a tent defeats the true purpose of the night – to look up into the heavens together, as one race of people – the human race. To truly realize we are one, to feel that connection and shared experience of beauty in the same heavens. And for those living in the Northern Hemisphere, be sure to look to the northeast. Tonight is in the middle of the Perseid Meteor Showers. Count the falling stars and make your wishes count.

Now I don’t know about you, but sleeping under the stars makes me long for childhood delights of camp fires and S’Mores. S’Mores aren’t just toasted marshmallows smashed between graham crackers and pieces of chocolate bars. Nope, there are S’Mores Pies and Cakes and Puddings. And S’Mores cocktails for us “big kids”. So raise your martini glass to sleeping under the stars.

Summertime S’mores Martini
Chocolate Syrup as needed
8 Graham Crackers
4 large Marshmallow
4 small Cocktail Stir-Straws

Finely crush graham crackers and place on a paper plate. Squirt chocolate syrup on another paper plate Dip the rim of 4 martini glasses into chocolate syrup, then into the crushed graham crackers. Chill the glasses in freezer until ready to use.

Spear the marshmallows with the cocktail straw then coat in chocolate syrup and graham cracker crumbs, set aside.

Ice Cubes
4 oz Chocolate Vodka
4 oz Coffee Liqueur
4 oz Vanilla Vodka
4 oz Heavy Cream

Place some ice in a large pitcher. Add the vodkas, coffee liqueur and heave cream to the pitcher. Gently stir.

Carefully pour cocktail into the chilled martini glasses through a strainer to hold back the ice. Garnish each with a marshmallow skewer and a sprinkling of crushed graham crackers.

  1. Delicious looking drink! I love looking up at the stars, but I have a short attention span. It’s sad how much the digital world distracts us from things like enjoying nature. Oh yeah today is also International Cat Day too. 🙂
