Peppermint Gifts From the Kitchen

Hello there! Welcome to National Peppermint Latte Day. Okay, so not every calendar site agrees, but some do. Even then, I almost went in another direction.

Two years ago, inspired by the day and a visit to the town of Columbia in the California foothills, I shared with you a true Peppermint Latte recipe. Last year, instead of focusing on Peppermint Latte, we had an awesome French Silk Cake to enjoy with that latte. This year, I thought why bother? It was in that moment of defeat and sense of discouragement that I came across this recipe from Baked, Broiled and Basted for Peppermint Mocha Mix.

Such an obvious choice! This mix is easy to create, making it perfect as part of any gifts from the kitchen exchange. This year, we’ll be doing a White Elephant Gift Exchange. I’ll be looking for a unique holiday mug to include with this homemade mix. And what better day to share it than today, on National Peppermint Latte Day.

Happy sipping everyone!

Peppermint Mocha Latte Mix
30 round Peppermints Candies
1 cup Powdered Sugar
1 cup Powdered Creamer
1/4 cup Instant Espresso Powder or Instant Coffee
3/4 cup Cocoa Powder

Unwrap peppermint candies. Place in the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade. Process until crushed fine.

Add powdered sugar, powdered creamer, instant coffee and cocoa powder. Pulse a few times to blend well.

Transfer to an airtight container or decorative zip-lock holiday bags. Print out instructions to keep with mix.

Instructions:
Place 2-1/2 heaping tablespoon of Peppermint Latte mix in a mug. Add hot water, stir well and allow peppermint pieces to melt. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate if desired.

This would make a wonderful stocking stuffer. Original recipe at Baked, Broiled and Basted – recipes for real people
