Happy Father’s Day to Fathers everywhere. Seems we are breaking with tradition for Father’s Day, too. Mother’s Day we went to Yellowstone this year. Father’s day we’re heading up into the hills for an all-day Country Band Concert. Local, west-coast talent. Looks like a hoot.
More and more studies today place a great deal of emphasis on the importance of having a father (or father figure) in the home. Fathers are the backbone to a family. Fathers lead by example – what it means to be a man, a true man. One that lives up to his responsibilities, one that provided stability, that shows both a loving side and a stern side. Daughters need fathers to show them what a good man is all about. Sons need fathers to learn how to be a good man. When there is a breakdown in the family dynamics, it equates to a breakdown in society. I am amazed that they have had to conduct studies to figure this out. But then again, I have an amazing example in my life. So I didn’t need a study. That’s my lecture for today.
In looking back at the recipes we’ve shared over the years to celebrate the amazing person we call Dad, I realized that we’ve really had some delicious meals. Traditionally speaking, Father’s Day is all about gathering the family and spending time around the backyard grill. Mom gets pampered. Dad gets to cook. At least that’s true most of the time. Once the sons (or daughters) are grown, Dad can reluctantly pass the baton or the barbecue tongs.
I’ve picked a few of our favorites from among those we’ve shared. Chances are, you’ve already made plans for the day. And that’s okay – just tuck these recipes away someplace for safe keeping. It’s only the middle of June – we’ve got plenty of time for barbecue.
