I love Food Day!

In case you haven’t noticed, I love food. So glad we have a National I Love Food Day to celebrate all the goodness of food. While we do need to eat in order to fuel the body, eating is meant to be more – it’s meant to bring joy. Why else would God have given us taste buds?

A very long time ago, I asked a Priest about pleasure. Wine makes you feel good. Walking in the rain is nice with the right attitude. He said God gave us pleasure because He loves us. However; it is meant to be savored in moderation. Have a glass of wine, but don’t become a drunkard. Have a slice of cake, but don’t become gluttonous. It makes sense, so I don’t feel bad about enjoying both the preparing and eating of foods that bring me joy.

While this recipe might seem familiar, I’ve made a few minor changed. First off, we found a loaf of Cinnamon Brioche in the bakery. It came un-sliced, but that was okay since I have a Bow-Fiddle Knife. The second change was to reduce the amount of milk and made up the difference with heavy cream. If you don’t have any heavy cream on hand, that’s okay, just use a cup of milk. And finally I’ve increased the eggs to three. Oh my, what can I say except isn’t it lovely to start your day with dessert?

Enjoy – and have a blessed day.

Cinnamon Brioche Banana Fosters French Toast
French Toast
6 slices Cinnamon Brioche Bread

1/4 cup Heavy Cream
3 large Eggs
1-1/2 teaspoons Vanilla
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon Salt
1 tablespoon Butter
1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil

Slice bread into six 1/2-inch thick slices. Place bread slices in a large casserole dish. Set aside.

In a blender, add milk, cream and eggs. Blend for about 2 minutes. Add Vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Blend until creamy, about 4 minutes. Pour custard mixture over the bread in the dish. Let soak for about 2 minutes. Turn and soak another 2 minutes. Remove to a cutting board until ready to coo,

Melt butter with oil on a flat griddle over medium-low heat. Once warmed, brush to spread butter-oil mixture over the entire surface of the griddle. Place custard-soaked Brioche bread on the griddle. Cook about 3 minutes per side, until well browned. Transfer to the wire baking rack in the oven. Hold French Toast in the warm oven until ready to serve. If desired pat toast with a little butter before placing in the oven.

Bananas Foster Topping
2 firm Bananas
4 tablespoons Butter
1/4 cup packed Brown Sugar
Pinch Cinnamon
Pinch Nutmeg

Peel and slice bananas, set aside.

In a small skillet, over medium-low heat add butter with brown sugar. Season with cinnamon and nutmeg. As the butter melts, mix flavored brown sugar into the butter to create a bubbly syrup. Add bananas, spread out into a single layer. Once the bananas are warmed, remove from heat.

Plate Cinnamon Brioche French Toast. Spoon bananas over the top of the French Toast. Drizzle with warm syrup from the pan. Serve and enjoy.

The bloodthirsty and the deceitful
the LORD abhors.
