Holy is the Name of Mary

Today within the Catholic Church, we celebrate the Optional Memorial of the Feast of the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Wow – that’s quite the title for a optional Memorial, the lowest possible ranking for a feast.

Once upon a time the names Mary, Marie or Maria were often given to daughters, either as a first or middle name in honor of Mary, Mother of God. Catholics have a beautiful relationship with the Mother of Jesus. We see her as our Heavenly Mother. As Christ’s mother, she had influence over Him and it is this favor that we seek. She is not divine, but she does intercede on our behalf, bringing our prayers and petitions to her son for consideration.

To put it into perspective for non-Catholic Christians, speaking with Mary is like requesting the prayers of your minister. Just as praying to any of the saints would be like asking your parish family to pray for you during a difficult time. The only difference is that the Saints and Mary are with our Lord in Heaven. They have His ear, if you will.

As a woman, I find certain subjects are easier for me to talk over with another woman, another mother, another wife. Mary is a kindred spirit, and I find comfort in that relationship.

Today is also a day for Milk Shakes. Hubby had never had a vanilla milkshake ever. So I whipped up what I think is an amazing shake. With the chocolate rimmed glass, the cherry on top, and a kiss of Vanilla Extract to elevate the vanilla goodness, there is nothing boring about this shake. Enjoy!

Dressing Up Vanilla Shakes
4 oz Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
White Chocolate Curls
2 cups Milk
1/2 gallon Vanilla Ice Cream
2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
Whipped Cream for serving
Maraschino Cherries for garnish

In 30-second intervals, melt chocolate chips in a shallow bowl; stirring between each interval until melted.

Roll the rim of the milk shake glasses in the melted chocolate to coat the edge. Roll in white chocolate curls as a garnish. Please glasses in the freezer to set.

Pour 1 cup of milk in a large blender. Add all the ice cream using a large scoop. Add vanilla extract and remaining milk. Blend until smooth.

Divide vanilla shakes into the chilled glasses. Finish each shake with a shot of whipped cream and a cherry on top. Serve with large straws and enjoy.

Awesome just for fun or enjoy with your favorite Burgers and Tots.

Truly You have formed my inmost being;
You knit me in my mother’s womb.
