Tis the Reason

Not only for the season, but every moment of every day. Let us never forget.

Years ago, Hubby and I bought one of the largest table-top Nativity scenes I’ve ever seen. It’s in keeping with Christimas Villages with lights, people and various buildings. We set it up on the First Advent Sunday. When Kiddo was just a kid, each day he would move Mary and Joseph around the house as they traveled to Bethlehem. The Baby Jesus arrived after Midnight Mass. The wise men continued to travel through the house until they reached Bethlehem on January 6. By that time, Mary and Joseph, along with their precious Son had been moved into one of the houses, as scripture dictates. With no little ones to share this “journey” with, we’ve taken to setting up the Nativity Village complete, with only the Christ Child and Magi missing until the approprate time.

Hubby and I have been looking for a smaller Nativity, one that we could leave up year round as a daily reminder of our faith and the reason for everything. Each year a group of Missonaries from Bethlehem come to our Parish with hand-carved religious pieces to sell. The money goes to support Catholic Missions in the Holy Land. Without fail Hubby and I find something to add to our collection of beautiful works of art as a way of supporting this cause. The Rosary I keep on my desk is one such piece, as is the Crucifix Hubby wears and the carving of the Blessed Family that is the center piece of my candles at prayer.

We feel so blessed to have found a Nativity that will stand as a reminder of our faith every day. It is far too beautiful and precious to keep in a box.

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign:
the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and will call him Emmanuel.
Isaiah 7:14
