Burgers for Sunday?

Why not? Be it the start of a new week, or the end of the weekend, sometimes simple and relaxed is the way to go. After all, these are Ordinary Times.

Recently a celebrity posted a photo of In-and-Out’s Protein Style Option. Basically, it’s their classic burger without the bun. Talk about a flashback memory!

When Hubby and I were renewing our wedding vows for the 2nd time (he’s my Hubby three times over – one wedding, twice renewed), the only burgers I would eat were the Protein Burgers from In-and-Out. I had a wedding dress to squeeze into, so every bit of food that crossed my lips was calculated. With the exception of special events such as a wedding or monumental high school reunion, most of us don’t need to be so fanatical in the way we choose to eat. Oh sure, healthy is better in the long run. But our careers don’t depend upon the way we look at any given moment.

Still, that post got me to thinking – I did enjoy a Protein Style Burger. And I was willing to bet one made with creamy, spreadable goat cheese and a sprinkling of Arugula would be even more incredible. I rather like Arugula on my burgers anyway. The goat cheese was something new. And yeah, it’s good – if you like a more pungent yet creamier cheese on your burgers.

Lettuce Wrapped Arugula Burgers
3 (Third Pound) Burger Patties
Salt to taste
Black Pepper to taste
Hamburger Seasoning to taste
6 Green Leaf Lettuce Leaves
Beef Steak Tomato
Handful Arugula
Soft Goat Cheese, optional for the adventurous
Hamburger Buns, optional for the traditionalist

Heat griddle or grill. While the griddle heats, season burgers to taste with salt, pepper and Hamburger Seasoning. Set aside.

Rinse and spin dry lettuce leaves. Create 3 stacks of lettuce, 2 leaves each, large enough to wrap the burger. Slice tomato, place on top of the lettuce. Scatter Arugula over the sliced tomato, set aside.

Once the grill or griddle is hot, cook burgers to desired doneness, about 5 minutes per side. Remove from grill. Spread goat cheese over the tops of desired burgers. Wrap in the lettuce, slice in half for easier eating. Serve with plenty of napkins, these burgers are a messy treat!

Option: Serve a more traditional burger inside a bun with or without the creamy goat cheese.
