A few years back we took a cruise vacation for 16 days. Yeah, sixteen days on a ship. While amazing, if you aren’t a fan of the open ocean, it’s not recommended. There are a lot of days at sea with little to do but eat.
Don’t judge this amazing cruise by our experience – there was a storm. A bad storm. Even the more seasoned members of the crew had a hard time finding their sea legs. One of the lecturers who gave nature talks about his various adventures said if he could have given the passengers some sort of award for surviving some of the roughest seas he had ever seen he would have. For Hubby’s sake, I wish the weather had been better – warmer. As for me, I like storms. There is something about fog and rain and falling snow that speaks to my inner soul and wraps me in a strange sense of peace.
One of the things that the cruise did offer were over-the-top ice cream Sundaes. We were smart, upgrading our package to include some extras – as in 15 cocktails per day (yeah, never did reach our max), 2 private gourmet dining experiences and 2 Sundaes per day. Let me tell you, if you ate 2 of these a day, they would need to wheel you off the ship at the end.
While my Butterfinger Ice Cream Sundae pales in comparison, those amazing cruise ship Sundaes were my source of inspiration. Happy Vanilla Ice Cream Day!
Butterfinger-Vanilla Ice Cream Sundaes
Chocolate Syrup as needed
5 Butterfinger Candy Bars
12 scoops French Vanilla Ice Cream
Whipped Cream
Drizzle the inside of 4 Shake Glasses with chocolate. Place in the freezer for the chocolate sauce to set.
Crush 1 candy bar into small pieces, place on a plate. Break 2 candy bars into medium-size broken pieces; set aside. Break remaining 2 bars in half.
Remove glasses from freezer, run a little chocolate sauce around the rim. Dip into the crushed candies to line the rim. Fill each glass with layers of ice cream and crushed candy bars.
Finish with some whipped cream and a sprinkling of candy. Stick a half a candy bar in each glass sticking up above the whipped cream. Cookies are also a nice touch. Serve and enjoy.
