Did you know that today is National Vermont Day? I just love the idea of celebrating each state in a positive light. I really don’t understand why so many people feel the need to hate the land of their birth.
When you think about it, that’s a lot like hating a part of yourself. Sure, there are things about ourselves that we’d like to change, to improve. That’s fine. Just as there are things about America that we could work on TOGETHER to make her all that she can be. Mind you, this is just my opinion, but I think the first place to start would be to love our country just a little bit more.
When I think of Vermont, my thoughts wander to Syrup. And what better way to enjoy the flavors of that beautiful amber nectar than over French Toast?
Classic Griddle French Toast
3 Eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup Milk
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 teaspoon Powdered Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
12 slices Day-old French Bread
Butter as needed
Maple Syrup as desired
Heat griddle to 325-degrees. Melt about 1-2 tablespoons of butter on griddle.
In a mixing bowl, lightly beat eggs. Whisk in milk, cream, vanilla, pwdered sugar and cinnamon. Pour custard mixture into a shallow bowl, set aside.
Cut and discard ends of the French Bread. Slice 1-inch thick slices from the remaining loaf of bread.. Dip bread into egg custard mixture.

“Toast” the French Bread on the heated griddle about 2 minutes or so per side; until golden brown. Place a small dollop of butter on the finished toast while still on the griddle, allowing the butter to melt into the French Bread.

Transfer to a platter or individual plates. Pass the syrup and enjoy.
Blessed be the name of the Lord forever.
That looks so good!

The better the bread, the better the toast any way you slice it.
