Celebrate a Simple Servant of God

Today is not the Feast Day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Feast Days mark the anniversary of their death and entrance into Heaven. With the exception of John the Baptist, Nativities or birthdays of Saints are not celebrated. Yes, we celebrate the birth of Jesus. He is not a saint. He is our Lord and Savior, come down from Heaven to die for our sins.

On August 26, 1910 Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu was born into a Kosovar Albanian family. She was the youngest child of Nikollë and Dranafile Bojaxhiu. Anjezë left home in 1928 at age 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto at Loreto Abbey in Rathfarnham, Ireland. There she learned English with the intent of becoming a missionary.
