Today is the Feast of the Presentation of Mary. If you are a Christian, you accept the existence of Mary, the mother of our Lord. After all, without her there would be no Christ and no Christian Faithful. While some view Christianity as dominated by men, it began with a woman.

Blessed Be This Day
Today is All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day (thus explaining why October 31 is Halloween – or All Hallows’ Eve). In Western Christianity, this Holy Day is celebrated by the Catholic Church as well as a number of Protestant Churches. November 1 is also the day before All Souls’ Day, more closely associated with Eastern Orthodox, Eastern Catholics and Byzantine Lutheran churches. Roman Catholics observed both.

The Miracle of Fatima began on May 13, 1917 in Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon, Portugal. Our Lady let her presence be known to three young children during six visitations from the first appearance in May, and ending on October 13, 1917. Her final appearance is known as The Miracle of the Spinning Sun.

Just a little Catholic Background for those who may not be familiar with the day. Our Lady of The Rosary was instituted by Pope Pius V. Originally Our Lady of Victory, it was to commemorate the anniversary of the defeat of the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 on the first Sunday in October. The feast date moved each year until it was fixed to October 7. The entire month of October is dedicated to encouraging the Faithful to pray the Rosary, reflecting on the mysteries of the Christian Faith.

Today is a Three-For Day. Three special days rolled into one. While we’re going to talk about the important of two events for today, we’ll only be able to eat the third.

Do you believe in Guardian Angels? If not, while you are not alone, you might just find yourself in the minority. While the term “Guardian” does not appear in the Bible, the idea of Guardian Angels does. And you don’t have to believe in Angels for Angels to exist. Believers and nonbelievers alike walk the earth with Angels.

It’s been a little while since we’ve talked faith. With all this pandemic and social unrest and fear-driven distractions, faith should be in the forefront. For many of us on a personal level, faith has been center stage even if we haven’t been vocal about sharing it.

Today is Michaelmas, also known as the Feast of Saint Michael and All the Angels or simply Feast of the Archangels. Most of us recognize the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Catholics tradition teaches there are seven Archangels, one for each of the Seven Sacraments.

Impossible pie is oh so fitting for today’s recipe share. As a Catholic, I need to acknowledge that today is the Nativity of Mary. She was the Immaculate Conception, born without sin. Miracles do happen.

Today is National Red Wine Day. As it turns out, this isn’t the only National Red Wine Day on the calendar. The other is October 15. Most think of red wine as a cool weather harvest drink, which explains the original celebration in October. However in 2013 wine-lover and freelance writer, Jace Shoemaker-Galloway created Red Wine Day as a late summer celebration. He felt why wait?

According to Catholic Teaching, at the end of her earthly life, Our Blessed Mother Mary was assumed, body and soul, to Heaven. Catholics worldwide celebrate the Feast of Assumption on August 15. It is a Holy Days of Obligation, one of five or six (depending upon the calendar) throughout the year in addition to Holy Sundays. The Feast of the Assumption is a public holiday in 43 different predominantly Catholic countries.

Kiddo is not a big fan of Fridays in our house. Sure, he enjoys grilled cheese and tomato soups. He even likes Tuna Melts and meatless pastas. When it comes to most things that swim, he’s not always a fan. He’ll eat squid but not necessarily want salmon. That said, this simple battered shrimp received Kiddo approval.

Today is the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene. Hers is a relatively new Feast Day to the Catholic Calendar. On June 3, 2016, the Holy see raised the liturgical rank of the Memorial of Saint Mary Magdalene to a Feast Day. Mary Magdalene is considered to be the Apostle to the Apostles.

Hey there – how’s life? Time finally seems to be moving again – sort of and just a little too fast to suit me. I don’t mean life is returning to normal, because in California it is anything but. Yet time still flies. We’re now a whole three weeks beyond half way through the year, on the backside.
