Foil Equals Carefree Entertaining

Once upon a time when it came to entertaining, our big house with a big pool was the place to be. Big house gone, along with that over-the-top big life. In many ways I’m glad. Without all the noise and distractions, life is better.

Independence Day Celebration

I think we need to make some changes to Independence Day – make it a 2-day Holiday every year. You need to have the 4th off for all those daytime activities such as Parades, Community Barbecues and such. But then you need the next day off if you’ve been out late watching the Fireworks.

Backyard Smorgasbords Begin in the Kitchen

One evening recently, I asked Hubby about his upcoming Birthday Bash. I read aloud an assortment of Barbecue Dishes I had assembled as option one. Then I suggested a Taco Bar with Margaritas as option two.

Happy Birthday America

On this day 245 years ago, America declared independence from England. It was the birth of a new nation with great dreams and expectations. Growing up, the 4th of July gave us a huge sense of community pride.

Happy Birthday America

Everyone knows that today in Independence Day – America’s Birthday. I’d like to think there will be backyard barbecues and families celebrating together. I hope children will write their names in the air with sparklers and that night sky will be filled with bursts of color. Happy Birthday! And after this year’s insanity, we deserve a celebration of our Nation’s Independence.

Hooray for The Red, White and Blue

As a child growing up, we didn’t have the television as a distraction during dinner. For the longest time, the dining room table was in the kitchen, and the television (an old black and white contraption with rabbit ears and three channels to choose from) was in the living room.

Sparklers and Skewers – That’s Celebrating!

The idea of a themed barbecue revolving around grilled foods on a skewer is one I had been kicking around for a while. Then one year while getting ready for a big 4th of July cookout, suddenly a light came on. How could I have been so blind! We’ll be firing up our backyard grill anyhow – why not cook everything on a “fire stick”?

A Red, White and Blue Feast with Something for Everyone

For your consideration, I have opted to forego the usual 4th of July Parade of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato and macaroni salads. Instead, I’m thinking more along the lines of a “grown up” feast. Of course, you can always throw some burgers and dogs on the grill for the little ones.

Keeping the 4th of July Simple

It’s hard to believe June is over as we look ahead to America’s Independence Day celebrations. All across our land, friends and family will gather, be it in parks, stadiums or backyards. Anytime people gather, for whatever the reason, food is always a part of the festivities. And so it is that I turn my attention to a great American Holiday.
