Memorial Day is Just Around the Corner

Memorial Day is meant to be a day of reflection and to honor those who gave their lives in the service of their country. Today we think less about service and more about the unofficial start to the summer season. Many flock to the waterways on Memorial Day. That’s okay.

Memorial Day Came Early This Year

Did you notice? Usually Memorial Day, the last Monday in May is also the last weekend in May. Not this year. May 31 is a Sunday. The following Monday is the 1st of June. So we have a typical two day weekend as the last weekend in May rather that a 3-Day weekend at the lake or something else fun to kick off the unofficial start of the Summer Season.

Not Your Typical Memorial Day BBQ

This year Memorial Day Weekend is really different in so many ways. Not since returning to California in 2008 (as in Hubby, Kiddo and I) have we had an entire three-day weekend to ourselves. There has always been some sort of family gathering. But not this year.

Today we celebrate Memorial Day (the last Monday in May – and this year it’s about as late as it can get) and the 45th state to join the Union, Utah. Memorial Day is so much more than just an excuse for a three-day weekend and the start of the Backyard Barbecue Season.
