The Keys to a Good Samaritan

Sometimes I cannot help but to find it ironic that today we honor those called Good Samaritans. The word Samaritan today has taken on a whole new meaning. Most people don’t even realize that Samaritans are a Ethno-religious offshoot from the ancient Israelites.

Gotta Bake Scallop

Hubby is celebrating today. He adores all sorts of seafood, and scallops are at the top of his lengthy list. Until I met him, I had never eaten a scallop, let alone cooked one. You might say we have managed to broaden each other’s horizons over the years.

Laetare Sunday – 4th Sunday in Lent

Today is Laetare Sunday. I’ve always considered myself to be a learned Catholic, with a fairly strong grasp on Church Teachings and traditions. I will confess, I hadn’t a clue what Laetare Sunday meant until recently.

Celebrating Oregon on This Lenten Friday

It’s been a while now since we vacationed in Oregon. The Oregon Coast is one of my favorite places to spend time. I had even considered retiring in the Pacific Northwest. But then that was before.

So, It’s Cereal Day

And to tell you the truth, I’m not sure what I should do with that. According to the National Day Calendar site, today we are suppose to grab our spoons and favorite cereal bowl to celebrate the most popular breakfast food in America.

Celebrating Frozen Foods Day

Today is National Frozen Foods Day. Did you grow up eating frozen foods, as in frozen meals? You know, those T.V. Dinners that were anything but convenient. Unlike the microwave zap it in 5 minutes or less, the original T.V. Dinners were reheated in an oven; and sometimes that could take as much as an hour.

Grilling up a Mellow Monday

They call me mellow yellow. Great, now I’ve got Donovan singing in my head! Guess being a fan of the Hurdy Gurdy Man is letting my age show a bit. But not as much as his. Donovan released a new album last year, at the ripe old age of 76. Good for you!

Soup It Forward on the 3rd Sunday in Lent

Today we celebrate the 3rd Sunday in Lent. While we often hear the Sundays during Lent called Sunday of Lent; that’s not altogether accurate. While falling within the Lenten Season, Sundays are apart from Lent and therefore are in Lent while not a part of Lent.

Saturday Afternoon and Banana Cream Pie

Most families have nicknames for their family members. Growing up, my siblings had nicknames. Brother Dear, named after our father, was never calling Little or Junior. He was Jimbo. It’s the name my mother gave him, and it’s what all the adults knew him as. As for us kids, he was Jimmy. Even as an adult, he never outgrew the name.

Leap Year Thursday

Most of us know why we have Leap Years. Our calendar is based on how long it takes the earth to travel around the sun. While the calendar says 365 days, that’s not entirely accurate. It actually takes a little longer. The Gregorian calculation of a solar year is 365.2425 days, and that’s not perfect.

Oh My – It’s National Soufflé Day

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, or in what seems a lifetime ago, things were very different. Our lives were very different. We lived in a world surrounded by distractions. The finer things in life, including the finest of dining.
