Yep, you read the title correctly. An Awesome Orange Chicken can come from a package. Do you like Chinese food? Do you like spicy orange chicken? We’ve all seen those packages of Orange Chicken in the frozen section of our local grocery stores. You’ve got the hankering for Chinese food and you don’t want take out, so you grab one of those pre-packaged frozen bags. You get it home, bake it up in the oven and toss with the sauce that came in the bag. But it’s not what you expected. There wasn’t enough sauce. The intense orange flavor was lacking and it just didn’t hit the spot. So you decide that the packaged Chinese Chicken just isn’t worth the money.
There is such an easy fix to the problem simply by adding a few ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. All you need is an onion, some orange juice and red pepper flakes. A bell pepper is always nice, but that’s an optional thing. All you need do to take disappointment to satisfaction is to bake the chicken as directed and do a little “doctoring” to the sauce package. That’s it – can’t get much easier.
Super Easy Chinese Orange Chicken
2 Packages Orange Chicken (Costco comes in a box with 2 packages inside)
4 Tablespoons Orange Juice
1 White Onion, sliced into slivers
1 Red Bell Pepper, cut into strips (optional)
Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes
Bake chicken according to package using the oven method.
While chicken is baking, squeeze the orange sauce into a LARGE skillet. Add orange juice, red pepper flakes and vegetables. Heat over low heat, stirring occasionally.
When chicken is done baking, place it in the skillet with orange sauce. Toss to coat, transfer to serving bowl or large platter.
Serve with steamed rice.
