Throughout the Christmas Season, we are bombarded with images that have so little to do with what is important in the grand scheme of things. Big ticket items and rushing about to be the first on the block with the latest electronic whatever. So much of Christmas is lost in the process.
It doesn’t need to be so crazy. Simple things like hugging one another, holding hands and giving not from our wallets but from our heart create memories to last a life time. There are a number of holidays this time of year, and not all are Christian. That’s okay. We can respect one another’s perspective without loosing sight of our own.
In our house, one of the ways we remind ourselves of the reason for the season is to join hands before our tree and ask God to be with us. It’s a simple custom with a simple prayer, yet it means so very much. I thought I’d share this family tradition with you and wish you the very best in the coming Holiday Season.
Christmas Tree Blessing
Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Encircle this tree with your blessings, oh Lord.
May its twinkling lights remind us of all that is beautiful, all that is filled with the gentleness of Your love.
Lord Jesus, let your blessing come upon us as we illuminate this tree.
May the light and cheer it brings be an outward sign of the joy that fills our heart.
May we become Your instruments of Peace and good will throughout the world.
Now and Forever.
