Today is National Mustard Day. Mustard plants were so much a part of my childhood. We lived for a while in a small housing division surrounded by fields of wild mustard.
I can remember crawling around in the fields, creating pathways of flattened mustard plants that lead to “secret” large circles. We’d sit on the ground, not visible to anyone passing by, and have our lunch of bologna or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with tiny thermoses of milk. When my children were little, I once stopped near a field of mustard plants as far as the eye could see and told them let’s play hide and seek among the plants. Children today just don’t know what they are missing.

My favorite hot dogs as a kid were mustard dogs. Now that I’m all grown up, with grown up tastes, I still love mustard dogs, but with more kick. How ‘bout you?
Grilled Spicy Mustard Dogs with Grilling Beans
1/2 small White Onion
Nacho Jalapeño slices as desired
3 Quarter-Pound All-Beef Dinner Hot Dogs
3 Hot Dog Buns to fit the dogs
Jalapeño Mustard as desired
1 can Jalapeño or Spicy Grilling Beans
Cut onion in half from root to tip. Reserve half for another purpose. Dice remaining half, set aside. Drain Jalapeños on paper towels, set aside.

Grill hot dogs over an open flame, turning as needed to blister skins and get nice grill marks. When ready, pull dogs from grill, place is hot dog buns.

Garnish hot dogs as desired with spicy mustard, diced onions and Jalapeño Peppers. Serve and enjoy.

Hear the word of the LORD, O nations,
proclaim it on distant isles, and say:
He who scattered Israel, now gathers them together,
He guards them as a shepherd his flock.
I do love mustard and these look great
