My True Love gave to me Twelve Drummers Drumming. As the folklore goes, the Twelve Days of Christmas were an elaborate way of teaching children their Catechism in a time when Catholics were persecuted in England.

The Eleventh Day of Christmas

And all this day brings. On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, my True Love gave to me Eleven Pipers Piping. This begs the question, who are the eleven pipers? We call them Apostles. Christ called them Chosen.

On the 10th Day of Christmas

My True Love gave to me Ten Lords a Leaping. So often, this is depected in a comical way. That’s okay, for we know that God has a sense of humor. How else could you explain the aardvark?

Now the 9th Day of Christmas

My True Love gave to me Nine Ladies Dancing. Dancing for joy. Dancing for gratitude and the Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit. God so loved the world, that He gave us His only begotten son. And the Son so loved the world that He gave us the Holy Spirit.

The 8th Day of Christmas

My True Love gave to me Eight Maids-A-Milking. What is milk but the comfort and strength from a mother to her child? Eight Maids-A-Milking represent the comfort those who were lost received from Christ when he delivered the Sermon on the Mound. These is known as the Eight Beatitudes.

On This 7th Day of Christmas

My True Love gave to me Seven Swans a Swimming. The Seven Swans represent the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We have been blessed with different gifts, according to God’s grace given to us.

And the Sixth Day of Christmas

On the 6th Day of Christmas, my True Love gave to me Six Geese a Laying. The geese are laying eggs – new life, new creation. Just as the Lord created the world in six days.

On The Fifth Day of Christmas

My True Love gave to me Five Golden Rings. Christians know these Five Golden Rings as the Pentateuch. Christ knew them as the first 5 books of the Torah. Both know the Five Golden Rings as Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

The Fourth Day of Christmas is Bitter-Sweet

On the Fourth Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me Four Calling Birds. The Four Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, calling the Faithful home. The Gospels tell of the birth, the life, death and resurection of the Son of Man.

And The Third Day of Christmas

On the Third Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me Three French Hens. Faith, hope and love, heavenly gifts of the Holy Spirit.

This the Second Day of Christmas

On the Second Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, two turtle doves. The Old and the New Testament bound together are said to be turtle doves. Each of the twelve days of Christmas represent acts of faith in the perfect love story older than time itself.

And Now the 12th Day of Christmas

Twelve Drummers Drumming. “Come they told me Pa-rum pum pum pum. Our newborn King to see, pa-rum pum pum pum.” Originally titled “Carol of the Drum”, this popular Christmas song was written in 1941 by American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis. It would not be recorded for another 10 years.
