Feasting on a Beautiful Friday

The Patron Saint of France is a woman. Or rather a girl. Her name is Joan of Arc. She was born in Normremy, in northeast France. Joan was just 19 when she was burned alive. What crimes could this girl have committed that cost her very life?

Celebrate Ascension Thursday with a Coq au Vin Supper

Today is the fortieth day of Easter regardless of who might do the counting. That makes today Ascension Thursday. It marks one of only a few Ecumenical Feasts, meaning it is celebrated by multiple denominations within the Christian Faith.

Say Happy Birthday with Kremówka Papieska

Never, ever did I imagine I would live to see an American selected as Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. When I was born Pope Pius XII was the Bishop of Rome. No surprise that the Bishop of Rome, the Pope of the entire Catholic Church worldwide was born in Rome. Although he reigned for just over 19 years, I was 2 when he died. There is nothing about Pope Pius XII that I personally remember.

This is the Way

“And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.”

I’ve Got a Guy for That

Today is the Feast Day of Saint Matthias. While counted as an Apostle, he was not one of the original twelve. A follower and devoted disciple, Matthias had been among those following Christ’s ministry since the Jordon River.

Blessed Be Our Lady of Fatima

Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima. It marks the first of 6 consecutive apparitions that occurred on the 13th of each month in Fatima, Portugal in 1917. This was a time of great conflict in the world as the Great War raged on.

A Blast from the Past This Friday

Okay, maybe not that far back, but you get the general idea. I’ve been so busy lately that I didn’t plan a proper Friday Share for today. Rather than skip a day (today marks 1,510 consecutive days together), I thought I’d reach back a few years and shake the cobwebs off a recipe we’ve shared before. More on that in a moment.

A Saturday Feast with Saints Philip and James the Less

Today we celebrate the feast day of two of Christ’s Chosen apostles. Why are these two men remembered together? The obvious answer would be that they were both Apostles. If that were the case, why not have a feast day for all twelve and be done with it?

The Second Friday of the Easter Season

Our Friday reprieve from abstinence is behind us now. While we are still celebrating the Easter Season, the laws governing Friday Penance and Observations have once again returned.

A Day of Feasting and Prayer

It’s hard to imagine that we’ve reached the first day of May. I swear, the older I get the more quickly time seems to move. It’s a strange feeling to realize you have far more to look back on than you do days ahead of you. Nothing is taken for granted anymore.

Merciful Divine Mercy Sunday

Today is the second Sunday of the Easter Season. I love that Catholics celebrate Easter for 8 days as thought it were one continuous, glorious day. I love that there is an entire Fifty-day Season dedicated to the renewal that only Easter can bring.

Hello Saturday

Tomorrow we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, and the close of the Octave of Easter. That does not mean Easter is behind us for another year. Hardly, the Easter Season has barely begun. It just means that tomorrow is the final Eight Day Celebration.

Friday’s Feast of Saint Mark

Welcome to Friday – the 6th Day in the Octave of Easter. It is also the Feast Day of Saint Mark. What a holy day indeed!

Octave of Easter Thursday

Our Eight Day Easter Celebration is drawing to a close as we are more than half way to Divine Mercy Sunday. I don’t know about you, but this has been a time of great joy in my heart. Each morning I watch the Son’s light rising in the east. I need no other reason to give thanks.
