Break Out the Chopsticks!

Today is National Chopstick Day. Anytime we serve up an Asian dish, it is my custom to take the first bite using chopsticks. Much beyond that first bite and I have no choice but to grab a fork or starve. The only thing I can eat with chopsticks are chunks of meat or with some luck a grain of rice.

Reason Enough to Slow Down

Growing up, I can remember my mother placing a giant cast iron skillet on the stove top. She would then fry up some ground beef or ground pork or a combination of both. Drain well, add diced vegetables, tomato sauce and a can of tomato paste. Dad would come in behind her to add way too much salt.

A Tuesday with Crunch

Not that long ago, we hosted a family gathering at our home. Hubby and I did a little shopping at Costco for the event. Where else can you buy a 5-pound bag of corn tortilla chips for 2 bucks? Which also meant I needed to come up with ways to use all those chips.

What Is Candlemas?

Candlemas is a feast day or celebration within the Catholic Faith that is very much rooted in Jewish Traditions. So much of the Catholic customs can be traced back to Jewish observances. This makes sense since the first Christians were Jews and the first Catholic Pope was a fishman named Peter.

What Makes Sundays So Special

Where do I begin? Sundays are my favorite day of the week for so many reasons. The most obvious is that on Sundays Hubby and I start our day with Mass.

A Humble Feast for a Holy Man

Why do saints exist? Are they inventions of the Catholic Church? Are Saints even real? All very good questions.

Gotta Love Spicy Tuesdays

Welcome to yet another Spicy Tuesday in Rosemarie’s Kitchen. While the day of the week isn’t always carved in stone, I do like to cook up a delicious Mexican Supper at least once a week. It’s always a good excuse for the Margaritas.

Gimme the Spice

Without all that salt. I love Cajun dishes. What I don’t like about most Cajun Seasonings is that along with the heat there’s a ton of salt. The more heat you add, the saltier the finish. Yeah, no thanks.

What a Beautiful Day for Muffins

Today is the Memorial Feast of Saint Francis de Sales, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. It is also a beautiful Saturday in the Second Week of Ordinary Times. What more reason do we need to celebrate and enjoy this day of the Lord?

Cheese Quesadillas for Cheese Lover’s Day

Today is National Cheese Lover’s Day. For Kiddo and I that is a reason to celebrate. We love cheese. Our idea of a snack is a nice Charcuterie Board.

Gourmet Coffee Day

Today is National Gourmet Coffee Day. What’s the point of brewing up a cup of Gourmet Coffee without a delicious Gourmet Coffee Cake to serve with that extra-ordinary cup of Joe?

It’s International Hot-n-Spicy Day

And it’s also a Friday, so you know what that means – something from the sea. Thought we’d really go on an adventure – to Costa Rica. Personally I’ve never been except in my dreams.

What a Blast from the Past

Do your remember the Smoked Turkey we shared for the Feast of Holy Innocents? Yeah, we smoked that turkey on Thanksgiving. This year it was just the three of us for Thanksgiving. So that 10 pound smoked bird gave us a lot of leftovers.

Everything But

Have you ever heard the expression Everything But the Kitchen Sink? Years ago, before we got too old and stiff to sleep on an air-mattress, Hubby and I liked to camp. Okay, I loved to camp, Hubby loved to hike although he would have preferred a bed and a shower at the end of the day.

Saturday Night Supper the Cowboy Way

Recipes are as vast and countless as the stars. I think of the culinary arts as gifts from above. Something had to spark the human imagination. Why else would anyone eat snails floating in warm butter or put fish eggs on toast?
