Down the Mississippi

Often when we think South – as in Deep South, Mississippi is one of the first places that springs to mind. Mississippi was the 20th state to join the union, and the 2nd to secede. More than 80,000 Mississippians fought in the Civil War. They did not fight on the side of the Union. Yet the first Memorial Day took place in Mississippi to lay flowers on the graves of those who died on both sides.

Mississippi Mason Jar Flavors

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? Tomorrow is the first day of December! I don’t know if I should be happy or afraid that 2020 is nearly behind us. Will it go out with a bang or a whimper? The last day of November is Mason Jar Day, Mousse Day and Mississippi Day. How great is that? It’s also Stay Home Because You’re Well Day and Cyber Monday. So why not enjoy a good meal while shopping online?

National Mississippi Day and Southern Eats

Today is National Mississippi Day. The 20th state to join the union, Mississippi is home to the Delta Blues. Mississippi is one of the first states children learn how to spell with a simple crooked-letter humpback rhyme. It’s also how many of us count seconds – one Mississippi, two Mississippi.
