Hey Hey It’s Candy Corn Day

In case you haven’t guest, today is National Candy Corn Day. I must be one of the few people on the planet that actually likes candy corn. When I was a kid, I could gobble it down like no body’s business. Not so much now that I’m an adult, but I don’t hate it either.

Haunts and Spice

Oh me oh my – is it really nearly the end of October? It’s been one very crazy month – just an extension of one very upside down year. The farm sits empty now. No animals, no orchards and no family. It breaks my heart on so many levels.

The Apostles Simon and Jude

Today is the Feast Day of Simon the Zealot and Jude the Apostle. They share a feast day not because they died together, but because in life they are often associated as an evangelizing team. The most widespread tradition is that first Simon evangelized in Egypt, then joined Jude in proclaiming the Good News throughout Persia and the surrounding areas.

US Navy Day and More

Semper Fidelis – Aways Faithful. Most of us recognize the motto of the Marine Corps. So that got me to wondering what is the motto of the Navy? Would you believe our sailors technically don’t have an official motto.

A Tennessee Countryside

Today is once again Tennessee Day. With the exception of our 2020 The Flavors of Tennessee, the following three years have all been recipes incorporating Bourbon or Whiskey in one form or another.

One Spicy Friday Night

Today is one of those fun, unhealthy National Days. It’s Breadstick Day and Greasy Food Day. When it comes to breads of any kind, I am in diner’s heaven. Unfortunately, as a diabetic watching what’s left of my figure, bread is not my friend.

Saint Raphael Archangel

Raphael the Archangel is recognized in all three major religions of the world. He is mentioned by name in the Book of Tobit and 1 Enoch. Jewish tradition tells us Raphael was one of three heavenly visitors entertained by Abraham at the Oak of Mamre.

Wild Card Texas Toast

Wild Card Wednesdays are some of my most favorite days. It means at the dinner table anything goes – from Chinese Take Out Inspired to a hand-tossed pizza. It’s a time to try new things, experiment a bit, let my mood dictate the meal.

One Amazing Saint

Today is the feast day of a beloved man many saw as a saint while he was still alive. Like Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II was a beacon in the darkness. For the better part of my adult life, he was our Pope.

A Fancy Mellow Monday

Every now and again I like to take a trip down memories lane and share a recipe we’ve shared in the past. For this very Mellow Monday in October, I thought it would be nice to share a recipe from six years ago along with a story older than that.

A Mesquite Chicken Sunday

Don’t ask why. I have no idea but recently while making Fried Chicken in the oven, a song by one of my favorite Country performers kept running through my head. We’ve all done that I’m sure, have a thought and suddenly a song is playing in your head.

Saint Paul of the Cross

Paul Francis Daneo was born in northern Italy on January 3, 1694 to exemplary Catholic parents. This was during a time when many regarded Jesus as a great moral teacher, but not divine. Saint Paul was so moved by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, he dedicated his life to the Passion.

Friday’s Feast for Saint Luke, Evangelist

It never ceases to amaze me how Christ continued to guide the early church even after His death and resurrection. Saint Paul is instrumental in the writings of the New Testament. Saint Luke has an entire Gospel and yet he was not an Apostle.

What’s That? It’s Pasta Day!

Often when I sit down to write a new tribute to whatever National Day is on the calendar, I like to read the prior posts. It would be so boring to keep regurgitating the same introduction over and over. Guess what I discovered? Last year, for whatever reason, we didn’t bother with Pasta Day.

Not Your Typical Liqueur Day

Today is National Liqueur Day. It’s been a while since we’ve celebrated Liqueur Day together. Last time around, we made Amaretto together, and then created a beautiful Amaretto Crème Brûlée.
