In 1889, the International Socialist Conference declared May 1 to be an international day of celebration, a holiday for those who labor. As one can only imagine, this declaration did not sit well with the Catholic Church nor the United States. Yet both were slow to officially react.

Friday Night Cinco de Mayo Feast

Welcome to the 5th day of May – better known as Cinco de Mayo. It is a celebration of Mexican Pride, Mexican Culture and Mexican Cuisine. You would think it were their 4th of July, but it isn’t. As a matter of fact, Cinco de Mayo isn’t even a major holiday in Mexico.

There’s More to Fajitas than Chicken

Today is National Mail Order Catalog Day, Ice Cream Pie Day and my personal favorite, Fajita Day. Although I will admit, I have a soft spot in my heart for Mail Order Catalogs. I can remember the Sears Christmas Catalog – as thick as a phone book and packed with all sort of childhood fantasies. Page after page, it was enough to put Santa’s Workshop to shame.
