There once was a time when Hubby, Kiddo and I would have dinner out once a month, at a different Hamburger Joint. The goal? To find that perfect, gotta have it burger. Finding a good burger that doesn’t break the bank or come from a frozen cookie-cutter burger patty isn’t easy. Think about it – a family of three ordering from the grown-up menu can spend as much as Fifty dollars for a burger, fries and a drink. And just when you think you’ve found the ultimate Mom-And-Pop Burger Joint with rickety picnic tables and lights that flicker, a sign goes up to say “thanks for your loyal business and good-bye.” That’s sad on so many levels, especially when the hamburger stand has been a neighborhood favorite for thirty years or more. So many real burger joints are being forced out by cookie-cutter chains.
Let’s face it, cooking at home is usually cheaper than eating out. The food is better and you have control over the quality of the meal. We’ve abandoned the idea of finding that perfect burger experience out in the world somewhere. Instead, we pursue the perfect burger right at home. Double Western Bacon Burger
8 Frozen Onion Rings, baked
4 Bacon slices, cooked crisp
2 lbs Ground Chuck
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
4 Sesame Seed Buns, lightly grilled
8 tablespoons Hickory Barbecue Sauce
8 slices American Cheese
Heat oven according to Onion Ring package directions. Lightly spray baking sheet. Arrange onion rings, lightly spray rings, then bake according to directions.
Cut bacon strips in half to create 8 strips. Fry until crisp. Drain on paper towels and set aside until ready to use. Divide ground beef into 8 equal balls. Flatten to form 8 Quarter-Pound burgers. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside..
Heat grill for burgers. Lightly season burgers with salt and pepper. Set aside until ready to grill.
Lightly butter buns, grill on a flat griddle until lightly toasted, about 5 minutes. Set aside until ready to build burger.
Grill hamburger patties over open flame, 2-3 minutes per side.
Lightly grill hamburger buns. Spread 1 tablespoon of barbecue sauce on inside of both top and bottom buns. Set aside.
