It’s that day again, National Eggnog Day. This year, I thought I’d share a recipe from one of my favorite Celebrity Chefs, Alton Brown. I love the way Alton gives us a bit of history and explains the “whys” behind cooking.
A Simple Christmas Eve Supper
The wait is over. The house is decorated. The stockings hung, and all those presents wrapped. Perhaps you and your family are planning a quiet evening at home. Perhaps a seven-course-seven-fish meal is just a bit over the top. I get that, really I do. Yet Christmas Eve should be special. With that in mind, might I entice you with a simple scallop supper?
What a Surprise!
Look what popped up today! I’ve reached over 500 followers. All I can say is thank you everyone. It’s been a fun journey thus far. One that I hope will continue for years to come. I truly feel blessed.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
One Dozen Dinner Rolls Coming Up
When it comes to baking breads and rolls, I’m not exactly a baker. Give me a cake, you got it. Want a Souffle? No problem. But a loaf of bread – sometimes it’s perfect, other times it’s not. I don’t know why baking bread is such a challenge for me, it just is.

My original plan for this Pastry Flounder was to suggest it as a possible Christmas Eve dinner, perhaps as one of the multitude of dishes served for the Feast of Seven Fishes. But then I saw that today is the beginning of Hanukkah. I am not Jewish, so I don’t know how Kosher this recipe is, but it sure is festive.
Old Fashion Morning Pastry Ring-A-Lings
Do you subscribe to any commercial recipe sites such as Betty Crocker or Pillsbury? I do, partly because with a little tweaking, you can make some tasty dishes, or at the very least get a little inspiration. Their recipes include their brand of ingredients, and often give you coupons as well. That’s a nice plus. The down side is that you are constantly bombarded with e-mail links to their recipe sites.
Fourth Sunday of Advent
The time has come to light the fourth candle in the Advent Wreath. As far as the wreath is concerned, the wait is over. The next candle to be lit will be on Christmas Morning. This is the final Sunday of Advent, dedicated to God’s unconditional love.
Gourmet Grilled Cheese Panini
Bet you are wondering how I could make fancy Panini Grilled Cheese when I’m married to the Grinch of Cheese. Actually, Hubby’s cheese habits are a bit strange. He likes extra cheese on his pizza, will eat a grilled cheese sandwich with a bowl of Tomato Soup, but has a strict no cheese on a burger rule. Go figure.
Zesty Slow-Cooker Italian Pot Roast
Winter is filled with great dishes that can only be appreciated when it’s cold outside. Hardy stews have got to be one of Hubby’s all time winter favorites. After all, he grew up in Wisconsin, where winters really happen. As for me, I’ve only seen snow falling from the sky maybe a dozen times in my life.
Ugly Sweater Cake for Ugly Sweater Day
Today in National Ugly Sweater Day. Getting my guys to wear their ugly sweaters isn’t easy, especially Kiddo. Getting them to help me with an ugly sweater cake is a snap. Naturally, I had to keep my eye on them to make sure the decorations made it to the cake rather than becoming a snack.
Feast of the Seven Fishes with a Modern Spin
The Feast of Seven Fishes is very much an Italian-American Christmas Eve celebration. It is the grand meal of abundant seafood on a day of abstinence from meat. The tradition comes from Southern Italy, where it is known simply as La Vigilla, The Vigil.

Good Morning Starshine
The Earth says hello. Sorry, but the minute I saw this beautiful recipe for a twisted coffee cake, the Giddy glub gloopy silly song from Hair floated through my brain.
Green Chile Chicken Skillet with Home-made Chips
This is one of those lovely little dishes that comes together with almost no effort. It could be served as a snack, a meal or anything in between. Depending upon your heat level, add more chilies as desired.

Do you like vintage recipes? Then you are bound to love this one. It first appeared in a 1934 church cookbook, From Ridgewood Kitchens. One of the fun things about old cookbooks is that the ingredients are sometimes a bit hard to understand.
Holiday Salmon Pinwheels
Can we talk? I cannot do anything involving salmon with cream cheese or bagels without remembering a funny story that happened way before Hubby came into my life. It makes me shake my head and wonder.
