Thanksgiving Past and Present

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. It’s a bitter sweet celebration this year. I miss the Thanksgivings we once knew, with the house bursting at the seams with extended family. Growing up, family was more than just relatives. Friends were family, too. Our house was filled with people and plenty of good food.

The Feast of Mary’s Presentation

Today in the Catholic Church we celebrate the Presentation of the Virgin Mary. This feast is a part of both Roman and Eastern rites as well as some Anglo-Catholics. The roots of this feast are not found in the Canonized Bible but rather recount the apocryphal Gospel of Saint James.

An Absurd Chili Dog Casserole

One of the nice things about made up National Days is that they seem to roll around, year after year. We get to have a bit of fun, or talk about a serious subject. Today is National Absurdity Day. Just take a look at that casserole – it’s really absurd, don’t you think? I mean, what’s going on with that piece of foil snaked through the dish?

Up Date

I am relived to say that my time to serve on a jury is up. All it took was a phone call late in the evening the night before I was to report. The automated service said “We have all the jurors needed at this time. We thank you for your service and you are dismissed”. Guess it pays to procrastinate.

Home is Where the Bread Is

They say when you are attempting to sell your house, you should bake cookies. The scent of home baked cookies conjures up feeling of home and warmth and family. That might be. For me, it’s the smell of bread baking that really hits home.

Indiana and A Chicken Sandwich

It’s Indiana Day – Again! It’s also National Fast Food Day. Once again, taking both cues, I went in search of the most popular Fast Food Chain in all of Indiana. Would you believe Chick Fil-A came in number 1. More on that in a minute.

Remember All on Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day. As a Nation, we owe a great debt of gratitude to those who answer the call to serve, and even to sacrifice all, for the greater good. Sometimes we forget, they do not serve alone.

A Salute to the US Marine Corps

Today we honor and salute those brave men and women who proudly wear the uniform of the United States Marines. The US Marine Corps was first established on November 10, 1775, under the command of the US Navy to fight in the revolutionary war. That’s a long history.
