Are you a fan of corn dogs? I love them. Have you ever made corn dogs at home from scratch without a deep fryer? Mine have been less than I had hoped. The batter, although delicious, tended to slid off the dog. Scratch from-scratch corn dogs off my list.
Spanish Sweet Bread Fit for a King
When it comes to Kings Cake or Kings Breads or anything to do with the Magi, we tend to think Mardi Gras. That’s fine, Mardi Gras marks the end of the Carnival Season, and the transition to the Lenten Season.
The Epiphany and the Feast of the Three Kings
“Arise! Shine, for your light has come, the glory of the Lord has dawned upon you.”
– Isaiah 60:1
In some parts of the world, today is known as the Epiphany of the Lord. In other parts, it’s the Feast of the Three Kings and still others it’s the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas. These are all good reasons to celebrate the day for they are all parts of the same feast day.

Starting the Year off Right with an Instant Pot of Beans
This year, Hubby gave me an Instant Pot for Christmas. I gotta tell you, I had real mixed emotions when I opened that gift. Don’t get me wrong, I was thrilled to get something new to cook with. But at the same time, I was leary. I’ve never used a pressure cooker of any kind.

Irish Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream
Add a little whipped cream to just about anything and suddenly you’ve gone from ho-hum to pizzaz. Add some brandy to whip cream topped hot chocolate, and we are celebrating National Whipped Cream Day the Irish way.
It’s National Spaghetti Day!
Here me shout – it’s National Spaghetti Day! Like I needed an excuse to whip up a big batch of anything Italian. And a sauce that percolates in the crock pot all day – oh yeah!
Feast Day of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton
Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton was born on August 28, 1774 to wealth and social prominence in New York City. She was the first person born in what would become the United States of America to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. Today, 199 years since her death, is the Feast Day of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Friday’s Spicy Calamari Linguine
When Kiddo was just a wee little kiddo, he moved through the world like a little adult. He traveled with us everywhere, and developed a taste for the finer establishments. Unfortunately, by the time he was a teenager, his tastes changed. It was pizza and burgers and greasy-spoon dives. Typical teenage things.
Enjoy a Baileys Shamrock Shake through a Straw
Looking for a little inspiration for today’s post, I turned to the National Day list. Hum, we had Chocolate Covered Cherries, Fruitcake Toss Day and Drink with a Straw. I don’t know about you, but after the holidays I’m all candied out. Tossing a fruitcake about might be fun, but we’ve eaten ours. So Drink with a Straw it is.

2019 in the Rear View Mirror
Can you believe it? Another year over. When I was young, time seemed to stand still. Now it seems if I blink a day or a week or even a month has suddenly flown by. The nice thing about a new year is that we get to start fresh. It’s also nice to take one last glance at what had been.
Triple Berry Cobbler in Celebration of this Day
For Latin Rite Catholics around the world, today is more than just the first day of the new year, it’s also a Holy Day of Obligation. Yep, we get up on New Year’s Day and go to mass. And not just any mass, this is the Solemnity of Mary, Holy Mother of God. January 1st is the Octave (8th) day of Christmastide. That’s a fancy word for Christmastime or the Christmas Season within the liturgical year. It’s also the 8th day in the life of a Jewish Baby Boy.
