Holy Monday and the Count Down Begins

Nine months from today we will once again celebrate Christmas – the birth of our Savior. That can only mean one thing of two things.

Palm Sunday’s Feast of Gabriel

First lets get the Feast of Saint Gabriel out of the way. Prior to Vatican II and it’s many simplified changes in the traditional observances of the faith, three of the most predominant Archangels – Gabriel; Raphael and Michael each had their own feast day.

A Blast from the Past for Chips and Dip Day

Hey there – welcome to this beautiful day in March. It’s National Chips and Dip Day. So glad because I get to resurrect yet another family favorite that’s been collecting dust, all but forgotten since it first appeared here in my kitchen in December 2019.

Welcome to the Last Lenten Friday

Today is the last Friday of the Lenten Season. While some people count Good Friday as the last Friday of the season, actually it’s not. The Lenten Season ends with the evening Mass of Holy Thursday. It is the Lord’s Supper, and it ushers in the Holy Triduum. More on that later.

Another Tuscan Thursday

Today is the 21st day of March. It’s California Strawberry Day, Corn Dog Day and Crunch Tacos Day. It’s also Thursday. In our house, unless trumped by a Holy Feast Day or big National Holiday like Thanksgiving, an Italian Inspired Supper will usually grace our table.

If this is the Spring Equinox, Is it Sandwich Time?

Welcome to spring! Spring and fall are my two most favorite times of the year. Both for the same reason. Color. Breezy days. And the foods of these seasons change.

Saint Joseph, Father and Husband

Today we celebrate one of two feast days to honor Saint Joseph, Christ’s earthy father. The full title of today’s feast is the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The fact this this is a Solemnity Feast speak volumes of the Church’s regard toward Saint Joseph.

Cheating Monday

In case you haven’t guessed by some of the backgrounds in my pictures, much of what I’ve shared with you recently were meals that were actually prepared well in advance of posting. There’s always good reason, such as last minute changes to a recipe because something isn’t working right. It gives time for tweaking.

A Pub Style Saint Patrick’s Celebration

It’s Saint Patrick’s Feast Day – that time of the year when the world is suddenly Irish. At least that’s what we see here in America. There are parades and even the Chicago River is dyed green to celebrate the Emerald Isle.

Pan-Seared Tilapia for A Lenten Friday

Welcome to the 4th Friday of Lent – we’re on the back side now. One more Lenten Friday, then Holy Week begins. For this particular Friday in the Lenten Season, we’ve shared six recipes over the years – half of those are for some sort of Tilapia dish. Hum, I sense a theme.

Spicing up Potato Chip Day

Today is National Potato Chip Day. I have this really cool slicer just for making your own potato chips. In all the years I’ve owned it, haven’t made potato chips once. But it does work well to get the most amazing paper-thin onions ever.

The Keys to a Good Samaritan

Sometimes I cannot help but to find it ironic that today we honor those called Good Samaritans. The word Samaritan today has taken on a whole new meaning. Most people don’t even realize that Samaritans are a Ethno-religious offshoot from the ancient Israelites.

Gotta Bake Scallop

Hubby is celebrating today. He adores all sorts of seafood, and scallops are at the top of his lengthy list. Until I met him, I had never eaten a scallop, let alone cooked one. You might say we have managed to broaden each other’s horizons over the years.

Eat Your Noodles!

Today is both Johnny Applseed Day and Eat Your Noodles Day. Noodles and pasta are the same, right? Okay, we don’t call Chicken Noodle Soup Chicken Pasta Soup, but we could.
