If there is one thing that Kiddo loves, it’s lemons. That boy can suck on a lemon and loves it. Sour is his thing. Before you shy away, the lemon in this dish ins’t insane. Coupled with the butter and garlic, it’s deliciously delightful.

Anything Stuffed with Crab is a Delicious National Day

I adore crab. There are countless fond memories involving crab. One of my favorites has to be to get some crab at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, pick up some fresh baked Sourdough Bread and a jug of wine. Then sit on the beach enjoying an amazingly simple picnic and watch the sun go down. That was a long, long time ago.

Beef Daube for Saint Bernadette

Saint Bernadette is unusual in that she has two feast days. The first is today, February 18th. This is the day our Lady promised to make her happy, not in this life, but in the next. This is the day recognized in France to be her feast day. The second is April 16th. It was the day she died, the day the Catholic Church tells us she went to heaven. Saint Bernadette was only 35 years old.

Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich

Before we get to cooking, I wanted to take a moment and acknowledge that in the United States, today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day. The day actually originated in New Zealand, where it is celebrated on September 1st. No matter, Random Acts of Kindness need never be limited to a single day. Mark Twain put it best when he said “Kindness is a language the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”

An American Sunday Supper

When I was growing up, Sunday Suppers were a big deal. I think part of what made Sundays so special was all the extended family. There were cousins and close family friends.  If you were upset with a sibling, there were always plenty of other people to be with. On any given Sunday, there could be as many as 15 to 20 children, and 8 to 10 adults. That’s a lot of people.

Hello Saturday Morning!

Do you have a favorite meal of the day? Not a favorite dish, but classification of meal – breakfast, lunch or dinner. Mine would be breakfast or brunch, hands down. I love breakfast-brunch so much that there are times I’ll serve it for dinner.

There’s More to Wisconsin than Dairies

The Badger State, otherwise known as Wisconsin, is rich in copper, forest and unending fertile farmlands. A mining boom, not fur trade, gave this state its nickname. According to oral history, the miners burrowed into the hillsides like a bunch of badgers for shelter against the elements instead of building more permanent homesteads. Guess they weren’t planning to stick around.

Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes

Growing up in a Filipino-American household, we ate a lot of rice. Roast Beef with stewed carrots, pan gravy and rice. Not mashed potatoes but rice. Skillet Pork Chops with creamy gravy and rice. The meat was from my Okie Father, the side from my Filipino Mother. While I do like rice, hands down I’m a potato gal.
