Today is National Play Outside Day. It seems that whoever it is (those mysterious unknown powers that be) who decide these things have designated the first Saturday of every month National Play Outside Day. I find that amazing. Growing up, we would have needed a National Stay Inside Day since every day was a day to play outside.

Friday Night Cinco de Mayo Feast
Welcome to the 5th day of May – better known as Cinco de Mayo. It is a celebration of Mexican Pride, Mexican Culture and Mexican Cuisine. You would think it were their 4th of July, but it isn’t. As a matter of fact, Cinco de Mayo isn’t even a major holiday in Mexico.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a good rant. I know I’ve been sharing my faith daily in both little ways (the passages at the end of each post – most are part of our daily readings), and in big ways, acknowledge days of great religious significance. For me personally, today’s recognition as National Day of Prayer really doesn’t affect me. Every day is a day of prayer.

Today we celebrate the Feast Day of two Apostles, Saint Philip and Saint James the Lesser. Often Saint James is called the brother of our Lord in Protestant teachings, but not in Catholic tradition. The confusion, according to the Catholic Church, stems from the fact that James’ mother was either a sister or close relative of the Blessed Virgin, and for that reason, according to Jewish custom, he was called the brother of Jesus.

Tails or no tails. So often that is the question. From a pruely presentation prespective, tails on is always a dramatic statement. But when it comes to dining, no tails is a much cleaner approach to eating shrimp.

I love the fact that both National Brave Heart Day and Super Hero Day are celebrated together. It is almost as though they were one and the same. In many respects, they are.

Today is National Prime Rib Day. Now I know what you are thinking, Italian Mac and Cheese is a far cry from a beautiful Prime Rib. And you would be right. While Hubby and I are far from rich, we manage and can even indulge for the right reasons when it comes to the food budget.

When you think of South Dakota, what is the first thing that comes to mind? For many, especially Americans, it’s Mount Rushmore. Today the idea of Mount Rushmore isn’t very popular among the Influencers. Which brings up a whole different conversation – what the heck are Influencers? Oh, but that’s a rant for another day.

Yeah, I know what you are thinking – East meets West must be some sort of strange Asian twist on a Mexican favorite, right? Wrong. In this case I’m talking about a date in History forever dubbed East Meets West.

Today is National Pigs in a Blanket Day, which should not be confused with Pigs in Blankets. These are two very completely different things, neither of which involves swaddling a pig in a blanket.

Today is National Picnic Day. And as luck (or as I prefer to think) God would have it, this year National Picnic Day falls on a Sunday. It’s the Lord’s Day of Rest. What can be more relaxing and restful then a picnic?

Admit it, that skillet breakfast looks like a Psychedelic Sunrise, don’t you think? And that’s just perfect since today is Earth Day! Earth Day isn’t just a National Day here, it’s known worldwide.
