Beurre Maitre d’Hôtel Burgers

When I saw this recipe from Serious Eats, I knew I had to give it a try. My only hesitation was my guys. Oh sure, they love burgers. But these aren’t your ordinary, run of the mill burgers. They are delicious, fancy-pants burgers.

A Big Burger Fit for a King

Are you a fan of the famous Big Mac? Yeah, we are too. But sometimes that Big Mac can be just a bit too big with its middle bun. That’s okay, we can do without.

Steak House French Onion Burger

There are a lot of things I take pride in and strive to accomplish. Variety at the dinner table is something that I strive to do. Here we are, three weeks into September and I have yet to repeat myself in the kitchen.

Spice Up Your Burger with Southwest Flavor

These burgers are super messy, sloppy, dripping with goodness. Consider yourself dully warned. That means stock up on the napkins cause you’re gonna need them.

The Triumph of the All American Steak Burger

Four years ago, as we were wandering about the grocery store, I noticed a display for Sutter Homes Wine and their Build a Better Burger contest. Hum, I’ve never entered a contest before. I’ve never been brave enough to enter a recipe contest. Me? I’m just a home cook, nothing special. Yet I really wanted to be brave. What was the worst that could happen?

Spicy Firecracker Jalapeno Burgers to Light Up Your Taste Buds

These burgers are big – packed with flavor and VERY messy!  You might want to consider handing out bibs when serving – I kid you not. I’ve actually thought about investing in those disposable lobster bibs that they hand out in restaurants. The chunky salsa gives the burgers a nice kick. And that “surprise” in the center – oh my! The guacamole lends a creamy finish, while the nacho cheese sauce just oozes out everywhere.

Onion-Sausage Hamburgers over an Open Flame

When my children were small, we ate our share of burgers. Burgers were easy to make, filling and always kid-friendly. However; burgers can become a rut in and of themselves. I was always “experimenting” with burger recipes, looking for new ways to serve up the same old thing. One of my favorites from the “old days” was to mix breakfast sausage (Jimmy Dean regular) with ground beef. The sausage brought a wonderful flavor to the burger. Cooked on a hot grill, the outside of the burger developed a nice “char” while retaining a juicy interior.

Squeeze Burgers Dressed in Cheddar Cheese Skirts

A million years ago, a burger joint opened in the mid-town area of Sacramento. It was very popular with the locals and lawmakers alike. The lines to get in the narrow doorway were out the door, down the street and around the corner. It was a very tiny place. You actually had to “Squeeze in” to find a spot.

Double Western Bacon Burger

There once was a time when Hubby, Kiddo and I would have dinner out once a month, at a different Hamburger Joint. The goal? To find that perfect, gotta have it burger.

Smashburgers with Dill Smashburger Sauce

In 2007, restaurant veterans Rick Schaden and Tom Ryan founded Smashburger in Denver, Colorado. What set their burgers apart was the way the burgers were formed on a hot, flattop grill over high heat, and smashed into shape under weights. This technique sears the burgers and give them better flavor. Smashing the burgers goes against everything we have been told about frying up a burger, yet it works. Today Smashburgers are served in 37 states and 9 countries.

Diner-Style Sourdough Bacon Burgers

Have you ever had your mouth all set for something you know to be yummy, only to have everything that could go wrong do just that? We like to spend time exploring the small towns up and down Highway 49, so named after the miners that struck gold back in 1849 in what is now know as “The Mother Lode”.  One of my favorite towns to visit is Jackson. I love the historic hotel at the end of main street. I love the nearby Rosebud Cafe with all sorts of fresh creations from their garden. You get what you pay for, and Rosebud’s isn’t cheap – but man is it good!

Big Smokin’ Burgers on Toasted Onion Rolls

And so the quest for the perfect grilled burger continues. Not that there is such a thing as the quintessential recipe when it comes to grilled burgers. I’ve been grilling up burgers for years and have yet to find one recipe that outshines all others. Truth be told, each blend of ingredients brings its own signature distinction to the grill. Just as the buns and toppings bring something to the plate. Burgers on grilled sourdough bread (such as patty melts) doesn’t necessarily upstage burgers on a buttery brioche bun or toasted onion bun.

French Onion Burger with Chips

I’ve been collecting and tweaking recipes for years.  I have bookshelf after bookshelf stuffed full of cookbook, some over a hundred years old. The reality is, I will never be able to sample every recipe I’ve tucked away over the years.

Patty Melts with Grilled Onions on Sourdough

03-22-2010-14Once upon a time on a beautiful spring day, the Kiddo, Hubby and I were helping Dad with a few chores around the farm – tilling the garden, pruning the trees – burning the dead wood  – all the usual farm chores. Physical work, and helping out around the farm is good for the soul.
