There But by the Grace of God

Go I. Have you ever whispered those words? I believe most of us have. Do we feel lucky? Or blessed or humbled?

Feast Days and Tuesdays

Hubby sent me an e-mail about our upcoming wedding anniversary – did I want to go out to dinner? He had been looking for a French Restaurant in our little Ag town, and the only thing that came up was Mimi’s Café. Yeah, like that’s a French Restaurant!

An End To Summer Bash!

Just as Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, Labor Day is the unofficial end. There is reason for this. Once upon a time, most school years ended shortly after Memorial Day. And the new school year didn’t begin until the Tuesday following Labor Day. Hence summer – as in summer vacation was between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Sunday’s Best Baby Back Ribs

Did you know that today is National Baby Back Ribs Day? Seems we’ve been eating a lot of ribs lately. Not long ago, I made Braised Short Ribs served on a bed of Pureed Potatoes. There’s a story behind that, and I’ll share it when I share my recipe.

Tailgate Saturday with an Asian Influence

Today is one of those two-for-one specials. On September 2, 1945 the War in the Pacific was officially over – the Ts were crossed and the surrender officially signed. In the past we have concentrated on that particular event. But not this time around.

Gyros Day Two Ways

Way back in 2019, before the world completely lost its collective mind, we shared the quirky yet interesting history of National Chicken Boy Day. It’s all about an iconic LA landmark that once stood on Route 66. As the name implies, it’s a boy with a chicken head.

More Than a Barbcue at the Beach

It’s National Beach Day! What began as a way to recruit younger family men to the Knights of Columbus by hosting a Day at the Beach never caught on. But it was revived years later as a National Clean Up Project.

The Sorrowful Martyrdom of Saint John

John the Baptist, John the Forerunner, John the Immerser, John the Baptiser and the Prophet Yahya. Each of these is a recognized name for Saint John, who preached in the wilderness of the coming of the Lord. Celebrate a Simple Servant of God

Today is not the Feast Day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Feast Days mark the anniversary of their death and entrance into Heaven. With the exception of John the Baptist, Nativities or birthdays of Saints are not celebrated. Yes, we celebrate the birth of Jesus. He is not a saint. He is our Lord and Savior, come down from Heaven to die for our sins.

Tequila Lime Anniversary Cake

Hubby and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary recently. It’s been a while since we actually went out to celebrate. Since we don’t exchange gifts, my “gift” comes from the kitchen. His gift is every day, with the touch of his hand on mine. We hold hands often, and that is more precious than diamonds any day.
