This year is a leap year. That special year with an extra day in February, unless you are a century with an exception rule. Let me explain . . .

National Frozen Yogurt Day
Yeah, it’s another National Foodie Day – this time for Frozen Yogurt. Let me ask you something . . . when you think of Frozen Yogurt, what comes to mind? If you are like me, you think in terms of ice creams or sorbets. But there is more to frozen yogurt.
Gooey Panini Tuna Melt
Every week, when Hubby and I did our weekly grocery run, I would stop in the small appliance aisle and look at a Panini Grill. One of these days, I would tell him, I’m going to get one of these grills. Then last Mother’s Day, Kiddo gave me a great grill. It does everything from Hamburgers to Sandwiches.
National Homemade Soup Day
In the winter, one of Kiddo’s favorite suppers has got to be homemade soup. And of all the soups I’ve made, a creamy potato soup is one of his all-time favorites. I’m not sure if it’s the soup, the cheese or the bacon that he loves most.
One-Skillet Lemon Asparagus Pork Chops
Who doesn’t like a supper that cooks up in a single skillet or pot or pan? Anytime there’s less clean-up, that’s a good thing. Although you really can’t call these delicious pork chops one-skillet. Sure, the chops and asparagus all cook up in a single skillet, but there’s more to supper than meat and veggies, right?
National Carrot Cake Day
Carrot cakes is one of those desserts that people either love it or hate it. Hubby is one of those people who thinks he loves carrot cake, but is always disappointed when he orders a slice in a restaurant. Why is that? Can all these restaurants be making it wrong?
Asian Meatballs and Groundhog Day
Did you know that today is National Tater Tot Day? San Francisco usually holds a big Tater Tot Festival on February 2 to mark the day. This year, it also happens to be Groundhog Day and Super Bowl Sunday. While I don’t know for sure if the Festival is on hold, considering that the San Francisco 49ers are in the Super Bowl, I get the feeling the city has something besides Tater Tots on their minds.
A Feast of Many Names
In ancient times, this day was originally known as the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin. Wow- that’s a mouthful! It has also been called Candlemas, the Meeting of the Lord, the Presentation in the Temple and simply The Presentation of the Lord.
It’s National Baked Alaska Day
Traditionally, on this day one would “Bake Alaska”, that is to serve up a sponge cake topped with ice cream and smothered with whipped egg whites. But then again, there is more than one way to bake a state. This delicious no-bake, no cake Baked Alaska is truly in keeping with the spirit of the frozen dessert, but with all the modern conveniences.
Quesadilla Burger and the State of Texas
Recently Hubby did something different – he took some time off from work for a “mini vacation”. It was great – a couple of days spent puttering around the house, a trip to California’s Mother Lode, a movie in the middle of a weekday and a day trip to San Jose’s Winchester House.
Two Sides to Every Super Bowl
Okay, confession time. When Kansas City won their division and were headed to the Super Bowl, I was really hoping that Green Bay would go all the way, too. I am a Green Bay Fan by marriage. Growing up in Northern California, I cheered for the 49ers, if I cheered at all since football is not my thing.
Lasagna Alfredo Florentine
It’s Friday. Ever notice how every weekend begins on a Friday Night? That makes Fridays just a little special, don’t you think? Even a Meatless Friday can be something wonderful.
What are you Serving for the Big Game?
Maybe it’s the shape of the meatballs peeking out from under the pinched Crescent dough. Maybe it’s the idea of serving meatballs as “finger food”. I can’t say for sure, but this recipe struck me as perfect Super Bowl Food.
The Magic is in the Basil
If memory serves me correctly, the first time I ever had a Croissant was not as a dessert but as the bread for a sandwich. I don’t know what it is about taking cold meats and slapping it inside a Croissant that makes it seem more elegant, top drawer if you will.

There are several things that drew me to this Layered Bean Dip. First off, the look of the dip. It’s not served in a glass casserole dish or trifle or giant glass bowl, with all the delicious layers viewed through the sides of glass. Secondly, it does not have the usual layers.
