A Little Freaky Fun!

What can I say – I could not wait until next year to share our Halloween Fun with you. Everyone did such an amazing job with their costumers and especially with the food. I just could not tuck all this fun away to share next year.

An Amazing Roast Chicken Sunday Supper

Can you believe it? Tomorrow is Halloween, and then we bid adieu to October. Time seems to be passing far too quickly.

Beautiful Grilled Tri-Tip Kabobs

As the days grow cooler, summertime foods tend to go on sale. Things like New York Steaks for grilling, and Tri-Tip Steaks are marked way, way down. Lucky for us, because we can stock up. There’s room in the freezer and a little wiggle room in the food budget.

A Beautiful Glazed Salmon Supper

Here it is, another Friday Night. Every now and again, our local market has a good deal of wild caught Salmon. When they do, you better believe we take advantage of it.

Ahoy US Navy!

Unofficially, today just happens to be US Navy Day. Officially, the Navy’s birthday is October 13. In our Catholic house, that creates a conflict since October 13 is also the Miracle of the Spinning Sun. Choosing is not up for debate. I love my country, but I love God more. Thank goodness, we have an Unofficial Navy Day.

It’s National Tennessee Day

Today we honor and celebrate all that is the great state of Tennessee. On June 1, 1796, Tennessee was admitted into the Union as the 16th state. On June 24, 1861, Tennessee became the 11th and last state to secede from that same Union at the start of the Civil War.

No Margaritas Tonight

Provided that there aren’t other things happening, in our house Tuesdays are known as Tijuana Tuesday. That means serving up tacos or burritos or enchiladas – anything Mexican goes. And Mexican Food (most of the time) is accompanied by Margaritas.

United Nations Day NY Style

Today is United Nations Day. This day had a very special meaning in my home. My father, an Okie from Oklahoma, while serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, met my mother, a Filipino beauty from a politically influential family. They were married on October 24, United Nations Day.

Rise and Shine – It’s Breakfast Time

Corned Beef Hash has always been a favorite of mine – right up there with Biscuits and Gravy. I can remember many a morning (after the bars closed) that we’d head over to an all-night diner for breakfast. Diner Corned Beef Hash was my introduction to the dish.

A Simple Friday Night Supper

On a recent Sunday Morning, from the pulpit came a lecture on responsibility. While the Catholic Church has never, and will never endorse one candidate over another, we do hear about the issues. Tangled within a political message was a reminder of Friday Penance.

California Chicken Wrap and Chipotle Lime Potato Salad

Today, strangely enough, is National Brandied Fruit Day. Brandied Fruit was made popular during the Victorian Era. People discovered that if you soaked fresh fruit in brandy, it preserved the flavor of fruit while creating a dessert topping for adults.

Every state is worth exploring. Each holds its own history, unique customs and interesting people. The more we learn about the world around us, the more well rounded we become as people. Today is National Kentucky Day. Let’s explore.

Is It Too Late to Barbecue?

One of the things that I love about Face Book is when a memory pops up that you might want to share again. Recently a nine-year-old post for a Marinated Steak popped up. This brings me to the question – is it too late to barbecue?

National Pasta Day Made Easy

Today is National Pasta Day. Pasta to me is an expression of all things Italian. Once upon a time, Hubby and I loved a little hole in the wall Italian restaurant. It was – how do I put this – reminiscent of a Speak Easy or Private Dinner Club run by the mob.
