Many, many years ago, my Dad was partnered in a Butcher Shop. My brother learned the value of hard physical work as a boy sweeping floors and helping with deliveries. I learned about bookkeeping while working on the office side of the business.

Mini Corn Dog Muffins are Big on Flavor
Are you a fan of corn dogs? I love them. Have you ever made corn dogs at home from scratch without a deep fryer? Mine have been less than I had hoped. The batter, although delicious, tended to slid off the dog. Scratch from-scratch corn dogs off my list.
Potato Latkes with Sour Cream and Spiced Apple-Pear Sauce
It’s been more than twenty years since we celebrated a night of Hanukkah with our Jewish neighbors. Yet that wonderful night has stayed with me as I carry it in my heart. The prayers, the lighting of the candles, the joy we all felt will not fade. As a Catholic, I could so clearly see the roots of my faith in Jewish Traditions.

Crab Rangoon with Spicy Ginger Dipping Sauce
Today is National Chinese Take Out Day. Personally, I’d rather have Chinese food in a Chinese Restaurant, preferably one in China Town in San Francisco, than from those cardboard take out containers. Or make it myself. That’s not to say Chinese Take Out is a bad idea. It’s just that by the time you place your order and get it home, the food has lost it’s freshness. Most food is just better going straight from the kitchen to your tummy.

Escargots Gratinés
My brain is constantly working on menus. I’m constantly thinking ahead when it comes to food preparation. As we speak, I have already roughed out the family meals through early December. Each week, the final details are ironed out. Even then, meal time rarely goes as planned.
Polynesian Pineapple Barbecue Meatballs
It’s getting to be that time of the year again when parties, pot lucks and office gatherings abound. I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for something just a little different. While I’m retired, I still make all sorts of things for Hubby and Kiddo to contribute to office gatherings.
Crescent Jalapeño Poppers with a Little Sizzle
It’s mid-September and most of our garden has been uprooted so that we can prepare the planter boxes for another crops – maybe. The verdict is still out as to a winter garden. I’ve actually thought about building another planter box that will be dedicated to Purple Asparagus. Yeah, I know it takes years for asparagus to reach harvesting perfection, but I love asparagus.

Creamy Tiger Prawn Appetizers
There is a wonderful restaurant in Oakdale California that Hubby and I enjoy for “special” dining. It shares a parking lot with the community center and public pool, just across the street from some sort of factory. At first blush, you might not bother. People show up for an elegant Italian supper wearing flip-flops and short. We aren’t talking black-tie atmosphere by any stretch, although both the food and service are top notch.
Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings
Today is National Chicken Wing Day. So glad to have wings on a day other than the Super Bowl. Only in America can a sporting event cause a shortage in bird wings!
Corn Cakes with Whipped Goat Cheese
Hard to believe July is nearly half over. July, that sweltering month smack dab in the middle of summer. And summer means Vacations.
Today is the Day to Eat A Snail!
Today in National Escargot Day. If ever you were tempted to try Escargot, then today is your lucky day. If you are preparing it for the first time, and serving it to people who have never tried Escargot before, my first piece of advise is to serve it stuffed in a mushroom cap.
Spicy Pigs in a Blanket and Family Fun
Are you a part of a game-playing family? We love getting together with my youngest sister and her family to play games. Most of those gatherings revolve around the holidays, as most family gatherings do.

Greeting one and all! How are you on this fine day, the 29th day in the Lenten Season? As promised, I have for you another delicious recipe void of pork, beef or chicken. The pretty much leaves us with ingredients grown from the ground or swimming in the waters somewhere.
Something on a Stick Round Two!
Yeah, I’m still thinking about foods on a stick. I’m also thinking about a big, juice burger. A burger with cheese. A Bacon Cheese Burger. Are you hungry? I sure know I’m famished just thinking about these awesome bites.

Every year Hubby, Kiddo and I take the short drive over to a neighboring small town to attend their Chocolate Festival in the town square. There are more craft vendors than chocolate vendors, but still it’s a hoot. Plenty of goodies to sample and gadgets to buy. We love small town festivals and street fairs.
