The Evolution of Table Scapes

First off, do you set your table? Or do you dine Buffet-Style? We actually do both, but the “birdroom” table is always set.

What to do with Ocean Trash

Along the Oregon coast is the little town of Bandon. It’s a sleepy little coastal town with a lighthouse, a famous rock, nearby tide pools and sand dunes. Summer tourism is its life blood. And tourists leave behind mounds and mounds of trash.

Off the Beaten Trail

If you were to search for popular places to explore along the Oregon Coast, on nearly every list are places like Haystack Rock (Cannon Beach) or Yaquina Head (Newport). These are considered some of the best tide pool areas in the state. Yaquina Head’s full name is Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, and with good reason.

Quiet Reflection

After months of shelter in place, stay at home, healthy people confinement – whatever you want to call this insane time we all seem to find ourselves in, vacations are more important than ever. It’s still possible, if you are willing to rethink vacation. After all, what is a vacation but an extended period of time away from work or school? Hum, when you put it that way, we’ve all been on a very long vacation.

Returning to a New Sense of Normal

On March 10th Hubby and I traveled up into the Mother Lode to the small town of Sonora. It was a yearly sojourn to attend one of the largest Celtic Festivals west of the Mississippi. This year’s gathering was small and the festival grounds felt more like a ghost town. While the word “pandemic” had yet to be spoken, the fears were already setting in.

The Magic of a Child’s Heart

Here’s to hoping that everyone had a wonderful Christmas. It’s been a while since I’ve had a good rant. So before the madness of the holidays fades too much, here goes . . .

2019 in the Rear View Mirror

Can you believe it? Another year over. When I was young, time seemed to stand still. Now it seems if I blink a day or a week or even a month has suddenly flown by. The nice thing about a new year is that we get to start fresh. It’s also nice to take one last glance at what had been.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

May the Lights of Christmas bring Joy

Throughout the Christmas Season, we are bombarded with images that have so little to do with what is important in the grand scheme of things. Big ticket items and rushing about to be the first on the block with the latest electronic whatever. So much of Christmas is lost in the process.

And Now a Moment of Silence

Today’s scheduled post for Family Style Spaghetti has been postponed. There was something oddly “wrong” about posting a family style recipe and brushing aside the significance of this day. Eighteen years – that’s a long time, a lifetime for some, and our country has yet to fully heal. The wounds are deep. For some the anger runs even deeper. Something happens when an entire nation drops to their knees and weeps. I wish I could say God turned it around, made everything right again, but that’s not entirely true.

A Crab of a Tale to Tell

Every now and again, I won’t have a recipe to share – just a story to tell. This is one such posting.

A Walk on the Beach

Have you ever looked at your vacation photos and impressed yourself? Every now and then, things just seem to fall into place for that “wow” shot. I’m not going to bother you with a lot of facts, backgrounds and such. The photos need to speak for themselves. All of the pictures were taken in a single day as Hubby, Kiddo and I took a stroll together on the beach at our hotel. Nothing is staged, what you see is how the beach appeared that day. You can call it God, Nature or whatever you like as the hand that placed things “just so”. All I know is that everywhere there was simplistic beauty. Hopefully, I’ve saved the best for last.
